Job Description
The Washington Post is looking for an Associate Director of Paid Media to join its subscriptions marketing team. In this role, you will lead the strategy, management, and optimization of paid media channels. Overseeing a team of digital growth marketers, you will manage all in-house paid media operations focused on acquiring new subscribers and engaging/retaining existing ones. Reporting to the Director of Acquisitions, you will collaborate with teams across the marketing organization, including Acquisition, Engagement & Retention, Brand Marketing, and Data Analytics.
The ideal candidate has a deep working knowledge of digital marketing and paid media and experience managing a full-funnel paid media strategy for a subscription business. Our team is looking for people who are excited to think about news content differently.
Responsibilities
- Leading a team of digital marketing specialists, providing guidance, and fostering growth.
- Developing and executing the strategic vision for in-house paid media campaigns across platforms, including Google, Meta, X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Microsoft, and Apple.
- Overseeing and driving the strategic vision of in-house paid media campaigns across Google, Meta, X, Reddit, LinkedIn, Microsoft, and Apple.
- Managing and optimizing a $20M media budget to expand audience reach, drive acquisition, lower media costs, and enhance subscriber engagement.
- Collaborate with cross-functional marketing teams to develop, test, and analyze performance results, providing insights to guide creative offers and strategies.
- Create and execute measurement strategies to better assess the impact and value of paid media tactics.
- Collaborate with Editorial, Acquisition, Brand Marketing, and Data Analytics teams to create a comprehensive full-funnel media strategy across platforms.
- Stay up to date on industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in the paid media space to integrate new strategies and tactics.
- Regularly present paid media performance to key stakeholders within the subscriptions marketing team.
- Lead and mentor team of specialists and senior specialist.
Requirements
- Willingness to work 5 days a week in the DC office.
- Expertise in media buying and managing budgets for various advertising platforms including Meta, X, Reddit, Microsoft, LinkedIn, and Google.
- 7 years experience working in digital marketing with a focus on paid media.
- 2 years of experience managing an annual paid media budget of $10M .
- Experience in managing and executing a full-funnel paid media strategy is preferred.
- B2C subscription marketing experience in a paid media role.
- Experience managing a team and working with cross-functional partners.
- Expert in analyzing data from paid media channels and other sources to inform optimizations or shifts in strategy.
- A bachelor’s degree in marketing, journalism, political science, english or communications or a related discipline.
- A passion for and understanding of news, The Washington Post brand, our readers, and potential subscribers.
- An interest and awareness of domestic and global current affairs.

Benefits may vary based on the job, full-time or part-time schedule, location, and collectively bargained status.
The salary range for this position is:
121,400.00 - 202,400.00 USD Annual
The actual salary within this range will depend on individual skills, experience, and qualifications as they relate to specific job requirements. This position may be eligible for a bonus or incentive program, and a member of the Talent Acquisition team will discuss bonus payment terms and conditions during the interview process.
