Washington Trust is seeking an experienced Relationship Sales Officer to support our Retail Banking Team and develop new and existing consumer and business banking relationships within the Rhode Island/Southeastern CT/Southern MA markets.
The goal of this position is to support our customers to achieve their financial goals by providing both personal and business banking solutions. This role requires a strong communicator to collaborate with branch staff and business partners utilizing a consultative sales model to understand the clients' holistic business and consumer needs. Solutions may include deposits, loans, cash management, commercial loans or wealth management and any other applicable banking services. Additionally, the RSO will network with external COIs and internal partners to prospect opportunities. CRM will be utilized to refer and manage pipeline activity.

Primary Responsibilities
- Work with business partners to take the lead or assist on new business opportunities.
- Generate a book of prospects/existing profitable small business and consumer deposits and loans.
- Determine customers' financial service needs and prepare proposals to offer services that address these needs.
- Refer, cross-sell, and build cross-divisional relationships. Facilitate joint calling efforts as necessary.
- Team up with branches to onboard new business acquired from referrals or own leads that result in booked business.
- Utilize the Bank's Customer Relationship Management system (CRM) for client activity tracking, call reports and pipeline management. Complete administrative responsibilities weekly.
- Network with related industry segments, key customers, and COIs to generate prospect leads and develop referral opportunities that lead to new business.
- Attend and participate in community and/or specific industry forums, conferences and/or meetings to broaden relationship networks and continually deepen knowledge of trends, practices, services, and the competitive landscape.
- Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 10 plus years of proven sales experience, preferably in a banking environment.
- Outstanding interpersonal/communication skills (written/verbal) with the ability to communicate with bank customers, business owners, branch employees and internal departments.
- Ability to collaborate with internal business partners to identify potential prospects and cultivate relationships.
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to navigate various software systems.
