Job Description
This unpaid internship requires a minimum commitment of 8-10 hours per week for 3 months with The Welcome Co-op.
The Welcome Co-op is a non-profit cooperative of the four Atlanta Refugee Resettlement Agencies: New American Pathways, the International Rescue Committee (IRC) in Atlanta, Catholic Charities Atlanta, and Inspiritus. The Welcome Co-op secures and sets up housing for clients of our member organizations in order to provide them a welcoming home upon their arrival into the US. We also manage the Shop of Hope where clients from our member agencies obtain quality clothing and shoes at no cost. This internship supports the overall goals and mission of the Welcome Co-op.
This internship is intended to provide qualified candidates experience and exposure to the process of setting up homes for arrival of new refugee families from around the globe, and to provide support to the Shop of Hope. In this role, the intern will have the opportunity to learn skills such as logistics, planning, customer service, inventorying, donor and volunteer relations, trouble-shooting, and communications.
Key responsibilities include:
·Prepare apartments for incoming refugees.
·Organize storage facility for ease of loading, locating, and unloading items.
·Support the Shop of Hope (stocking and organizing, managing volunteer helpers, assisting customers, tracking and inventorying of product, etc.)
·Help manage donations pick-up and drop-off inquiries. Receive and process donations.
Qualifications
·Ability to communicate with people of various ethnic and cultural backgrounds; cultural sensitivity
·Strong organizational skills; the ability to multitask and maintain focus in a fast-paced environment
·Willingness to gain understanding of basic refugee experiences and demonstrate patience and compassion towards their circumstances.
·Ability to lift and carry 25-50 lbs. alone or greater loads in tandem with others
·Basic computer skills
