Worship Leader Job Description
The Well is a United Brethren Church located in Huntington, IN. We average approximately 200-300 people in weekly in-person and online attendance. We currently have one weekly service at 10 am on Sunday. The church consists of young families, though we have a good mixture of all ages. We have a close connection with Huntington University, with several students, faculty, and staff attending. Both the youth and children’s ministries are thriving.
The Church of the United Brethren in Christ, USA (UB) is a theologically conservative denomination with a high view of God's word and holy yet practical living. A complete alignment with the UB Doctrine, Confession of Faith, and agreement with the Family Standards is required. Licensing within the UB Denomination is possible for qualified candidates. We seek a Worship Leader who facilitates an atmosphere of praise and spiritual connection by leading the congregation in musical worship. The role involves planning, rehearsing, leading worship services, coordinating with the pastoral, technical, and administrative staff, and shepherding a team of musicians and vocalists.
This position reports directly to the Senior Pastor. The Worship Leader works closely with the Technical Director, who coordinates all technical aspects of the worship services and special events.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the congregation in worship through singing and playing music, creating an atmosphere that invites spiritual engagement.
- Select theologically sound worship songs aligning with the sermon theme, teaching calendar, and the church's mission and vision.
- Recruit, train, and shepherd worship team members (musicians, vocalists, etc.).
- Organize rehearsals and services, ensuring all team members are well-prepared.
- Communicate regularly with the Senior Pastor to plan worship services, including song selection and unique elements.
- Prepare weekly worship set lists and distribute that information to the team members in advance. Serve as a spiritual leader within the congregation by modeling a heart of worship, personal devotion, and humility.
- Regularly evaluate worship services and gather feedback to improve future experiences.
- Stay current on new worship music, trends, and technologies, and introduce fresh ideas to keep worship engaging and impactful.
- Maintain records of team schedules, song lists, and any required documents.
- Assist in church-wide events, such as special services (Christmas, Easter, etc.), conferences, and retreats.
Qualifications:
- Spiritual: A mature Christian passionate about worship and a heart for leading others in a Christ-centered environment.
- Experience: Previous experience leading worship, either as a volunteer or in a paid position, is strongly preferred.
- Musical Ability: Proficient in leading worship with a keyboard, guitar, or instrument. A strong vocal ability and familiarity with modern worship songs and hymns are essential.
- Leadership: Proven ability to recruit, lead, and mentor a team of musicians and volunteers. Ability to work independently and within a team environment.
- Communication Skills: Strong interpersonal and communication skills with the worship team, Senior Pastor, Technical Director, and the congregation.
- Organizational Skills: Planning and executing worship services, managing schedules, and working with other church staff.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency using Planning Center Services, Multitracks Playback, and Pro Presenter

Hours: 10 to 12 average weekly
3-4 hours on Sunday morning. Practice at 8am, service at 10am. 6-8 hours planning during the week.
Salary: Hourly - Negotiable
Note - We are currently re-evaluating our staffing needs and if we receive a qualified worship applicant who is gifted in other areas of ministry, there may be potential for a full-time position within the church.
