Position Overview:
The Assistant Director of Nursing is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of the nursing department, ensuring compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations. Working closely with the Director of Nursing (DON), the ADON plays a vital role in maintaining the highest standards of resident care.
This position includes administrative authority, responsibility, and accountability to perform assigned duties effectively.
Key Responsibilities:
Administrative Functions:
- Manage daily nursing operations, ensuring adherence to regulatory standards.
- Implement and maintain the Nursing Service Procedures Manual.
- Coordinate nursing services with other departments to ensure seamless care.
- Supervise nursing staff and their respective roles and responsibilities.
- Complete administrative tasks, including medical forms, evaluations, and reports.
- Participate in quality assurance initiatives for nursing services.
Charting and Documentation:
- Complete and maintain accurate accident/incident reports.
- Document all accidents/incidents involving residents.
- Ensure timely and accurate charting of nurses' notes.
- Process admission, transfer, and discharge records as required.
Medication Administration:
- Administer medications according to physician orders.
- Ensure proper medication documentation and resident identity verification.
- Manage medication supplies, orders, and disposal.
Personnel Management:
- Inform the DON of staffing needs and address scheduling requirements.
- Assign and oversee work tasks, ensuring quality standards are met.
- Monitor nursing staff adherence to policies and procedures.
- Address staff concerns and complaints in collaboration with the DON.
Nursing Care:
- Communicate new admissions and updates to the nursing team.
- Administer specialized medical services as needed.
- Monitor residents' health conditions and notify physicians of changes.
- Support the orientation of new residents and their families.
Staff Development:
- Standardize nursing workflows and train personnel.
- Participate in and promote continuing education opportunities.
Safety and Sanitation:
- Maintain compliance with safety and infection control standards.
- Ensure cleanliness and safety of resident care areas.
Care Plans and Assessments:
- Review and update care plans regularly to reflect resident needs.
- Ensure proper documentation and execution of care plans.
Residents’ Rights:
- Uphold residents' privacy, dignity, and confidentiality.
- Address and resolve resident complaints and concerns promptly.
