Staff Pharmacist
Full Time | Day Shift | 9am-5:30pm | | Monday-Friday

What will I do as a Staff Pharmacist for The Wesley Community?
- Assist in planning, developing, organizing, implementing, evaluating, and directing the pharmaceutical programs and activities of this facility, assuming responsibility for all aspects of pharmaceutical services in the absence of the Supervising Pharmacist.
- Assist in developing, administering and maintaining written policies and procedures that govern the operation of the facility's pharmaceutical services.
- Assist in reviewing department policies and procedures, at least annually, and participate in making recommended changes.
- Interpret the facility's pharmaceutical policies and procedures to employees, residents, family members, visitors, government agencies, etc., as necessary.
- Assure that all nursing services staff follow the facility's established pharmaceutical policies and procedures.
- Assure proper maintenance of patient profiles and physician's orders.
- Assume the responsibility of maintaining unit dose carts.
- In the absence of the Director, represent the facility in dealings with outside agencies, including governmental agencies and third-party payers.
- Make oral and written reports/recommendations to the Director of Pharmacy concerning the operation of the pharmacy department.
- Maintain an adequate liaison with families and residents as necessary.
- Ensure that public information (policy manuals, etc.,) describing pharmaceutical services are accurate and fully descriptive.
- Assist in reviewing and developing a plan of correction for pharmaceutical deficiencies noted during survey inspections and submit recommendations to the Director of Pharmacy.
- Assist in routinely inspecting the facility to ensure that established pharmaceutical policies and procedures are being implemented and followed.
- Assist the Infection Control Coordinator in identifying, evaluating, and classifying routine and job-related pharmacy functions.
- Assure that physicians' orders are checked to ensure that residents are receiving medications as ordered by the attending physician. Report errors to the Director of Pharmacy, the Director of Nursing and/or the Medical Director.
- Assure that drugs and biologicals are approved and dispensed in compliance with federal and state laws as well as our established policies and procedures.
- Dispense, handle, and store-controlled substances (Class 2, 3, 4 and 5) in accordance with State and Federal laws, rules and regulations.
- Assure that all drugs dispensed will meet the standards established by the United States Pharmacopoeia, the New York State Board of Pharmacy and the Federal Food and Drug Administration.
- Assist in maintaining monthly reviews of the drug regimen of each resident. Report any irregularities to the Director of Pharmacy.
- Participate in discharge planning, the development and implementation of resident care plans, assessments, drug regimen reviews, etc., as necessary or as may be required.
- Perform administrative requirements, such as completing necessary forms, reports, etc., and submitting such to the Director of Pharmacy as required.
- Assist in standardizing the methods in which work will be accomplished.
- Assure that pharmaceutical areas are maintained in a clean and safe manner.
- Assure that reference material, policy and procedure manuals, etc., are readily available to the nursing staff.
- Assure that labeling of drugs and biologicals are in compliance with existing regulations, as well as our established policies and procedures.
- Assist in providing the Pharmaceutical Services Committee (or the QA Committee) with written reports, as required, of the facility's pharmaceutical service and staff performance.
- Report drug errors, irregularities, drug reactions, etc., to the Director of Pharmacy as soon as possible.
- Participate in approved continuing education programs and maintain sufficient continuing education credits to renew NYS Pharmacy License per DOH regulations.
- Assume the responsibility for filling Employee prescriptions.
- Assure that drugs and biologicals are stored in locked compartments and under proper temperature controls.
- Assure that Schedule II drugs are stored under double lock and key.
- Provide emergency on call Pharmacy service.
- Participate in surveys (inspections) made by authorized government agencies.
Staff Pharmacist Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science in Pharmacy from accredited Pharmacy College.
- Current, unencumbered New York State Pharmacy License.
- Experience in long-term care, in-house pharmacy preferred.
- Current New York State Pharmacy registration.
