What are the responsibilities and job description for the BEREAVEMENT COORDINATOR-CHAPLAIN HOSPICE OF THE BIG COUNTRY position at The West Texas Rehabilitation Center?
Working as a member of the Hospice Team, is responsible for developing, implementing and supervising the bereavement program and for the delivery of related services.
- Develops, implements and supervises bereavement program with input from the IDT and based on psychosocial and bereavement assessments and for delivery of related services.
- Utilizes professional staff and volunteers as appropriate for the service or event.
- Oversee adequacy and appropriateness of bereavement programs for family members.
- Oversees development of educational programs/materials for patients/families, staff and community on loss, grief and coping with bereavement.
- Plan, implement and supervises bereavement group events.
- Oversee bereavement follow-up by patient care staff and volunteers.
- Conduct bereavement section of the IDT conference.
- Maintains bereavement component of community and staff resource library.
- Participate in orientation and training new employees and volunteers.
- Prepare service reports as required.
- Advises staff on funeral times/locations. Attends wake and/or funeral when possible.
- Conducts groups with patients/family members in collaboration with team members.
- Assists staff and volunteers in meeting emotional and spiritual needs.
- Supports clergy in their involvement with patient and family.
- Assists in development of inter-faith advisory group of clergy which offers input in ministering to spiritual needs of patients and families.
- Conduct spiritual component of IDT meeting.
- Keeps others adequately informed as needed.
- Provide complete and timely documentation.
- Maintains confidentiality of information.
- Exhibits good listening and comprehension.
- Uses negotiation skills to resolve conflicts. Deals effectively with difficult situations.
- Treats patients, families and staff with respect and compassion.
- No gossip, does not harm others in conversation.

This position requires endurance to perform tasks over long periods of work hours and the ability to perform essential functions without posing a "direct threat" in the workplace. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
