Position Summary: The primary function of this position is to ensure the total delivery of nursing care and related services for all residents under their assigned area and in compliance with all federal, state and local guidelines, standards and regulations which govern the facility, and as directed by the Nursing Supervisor and/or Director of Nursing Services so as to ensure each residents medical, psychosocial and spiritual needs and wishes are met effectively and efficiently on a continuum.
Duties & Responsibilities: Charge Nurse
General: 65%
1. Plans, provides and directs resident care according to physician orders and the Interdisciplinary Plan of Care.
2. Administers drugs and treatments in compliance with federal, state, and local guidelines, standards, regulations and facility policies and procedures.
3. Completes resident assessments and develops/updates the Interdisciplinary Plan of Care.
4. Makes daily resident rounds and provides verbal and written reports to the Supervisor
5. Uses infection control techniques to prevent the spread of communicable diseases.
6. Maintains a safe work environment and exhibits safe work practices.
7. Assists subordinate positions in rendering of care and services as necessary and/or directed.
8. Answers resident call bells, regardless of assignment.
9. Adheres to, up-holds and enforces all facility policies and procedures.
12. Completes various documentation and reports as directed.
Administrative: 35%
13. Monitors and supervises the work of the Nursing Assistants so as to ensure the
needs of each resident is met on a continuum.
14. Assists in interviewing, hiring, scheduling, training, orientation of new employees and recommends disciplinary action as warranted.
15. Attends all department meetings and/or educational programs as scheduled and/or directed.
16. Actively participates in overall facility management and makes recommendations
for quality improvement.
Administrative continued
17. Reports any supply/equipment needs, repairs, etc., to the Charge Nurse and/or Supervisor.
18. Reviews policies and procedures, makes recommendations as warranted.
19. Adheres up, upholds and enforces all regulations and recommendations of the Department of Health, the Health Care Financing Administration, the Department of Public Welfare, etc.
20. Participates on various committees and with in-service training as directed.
Miscellaneous/Other (Exhibited 100%)
21. Assumes all other duties as assigned.
22. Maintains a professional, customer-oriented demeanor at all times.
23. Works within a team concept and is thus cooperative with co-workers and peers.
24. Maintains confidentiality of information.
25. Represents the facility in a positive manner.
Physical Demands and Working Conditions:
1. Must meet the general health requirements set forth by the policies of the facility
with a medical and physical examination.
2. Must possess sight and hearing senses or use prosthetics, which will enable these senses to function adequately so that the requirements of the position can be fully met.
3. Must be able to walk, sit for extended periods of time, bend, lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds and occasionally push carts weighing up to one hundred (100) pounds.
4. Required to reach, handle and manipulate equipment frequently.
5. Moves intermittently throughout the workday.
6. Works in and around all areas of the facility.
7. Is subject to frequent interruptions and must then adjust schedule accordingly.
8. Is subject to falls, burns from equipment, reactions from smoke, disinfectants and other air contaminants.
9. May be subject to handling of and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
10. Is subject to exposure to infectious waste, blood and body fluids, diseases, conditions, etc., such as TB, AIDS, and Hepatitis B viruses.
11. May be subject to emotionally distraught residents, family members, visitors, personnel, etc. and must possess the ability to cope with the stresses of the environment.
Qualifications
Educational and Experience Requirements:
1. Possession of a current State Professional Nurse License.
2. Certification in cardiopulmonary resuscitation-preferred
