Job Purpose and Function 
The Data Engineer is a key role within the Information and Technology (IT) Team at Wills Group. Reporting to the Director of Integration and Software Solutions, the Data Engineer is responsible for building, managing, and optimizing data pipelines, as well as handling internal analytics and integrations between the company’s systems and third-party tools. The role focuses on operationalizing data and analytics to support the digital business initiatives at Wills Group. 
In this position, the Data Engineer works closely with cross-functional teams to ensure the efficient flow of data across systems and to develop reporting solutions that address business challenges. They are expected to actively contribute to the creation and maintenance of data solutions that improve business processes and enhance product offerings. The role requires strong problem-solving skills, a detail-oriented mindset, and the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment. 
 
As part of the IT Team, the Data Engineer also cross-trains with colleagues in other areas of the department to develop a broader understanding of the team’s functions. Since the IT Team is a service-oriented function, the Data Engineer may be called upon to assist with requests outside the specific scope of data-related work, providing support across various technology needs within the organization. 
 
How You’ll Make an Impact  
  • Maintains and optimizes the data pipelines essential for supporting Wills Group's reporting warehouse, ensuring continuous and reliable data flow. 
  • Develops and sustains Power BI datasets and reports, providing valuable business insights through effective data visualization. 
  • Designs, implements, and maintains system integrations using EDI software and Microsoft’s Power Platform to facilitate seamless data exchange between systems. 
  • Creates and manages SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) reports, ensuring accuracy and relevance in the delivery of business-critical information. 
  • Collaborates with stakeholders across various departments to gather requirements for new reporting solutions and system integrations that align with business needs. 
  • Designs and implements an efficient data pipeline architecture to support the migration of the on-premise SQL warehouse to Azure, ensuring a smooth transition to the cloud. 
  • Maintains and enhances advanced algorithms utilizing Azure Machine Learning to drive business insights and improve decision-making processes. 
  • Develops and maintains thorough documentation for system integrations, ensuring clear communication and efficient troubleshooting for future reference. 
  • Works closely with IT Team leadership to establish and implement standards for self-service automation and analytics, empowering business units to independently access and analyze data. 
  • Acts as an escalation point for help desk requests related to reporting and integrations, providing timely resolutions to ensure smooth business operations. 
  
What We’re Looking For  
Basic Qualifications 
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Data Management, or a related field; equivalent relevant progressive experience and a minimum of high school diploma will also be considered. 
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in data management disciplines, including data integration, modeling, and optimization. 
  • At least 3 years of hands-on experience with relational SQL databases, including creating and managing queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning. 
  • A minimum of 2 years of experience with object-oriented or functional scripting languages such as Python or R. 
  • At least 1 year of experience working with Microsoft Power Platform, including building integrations and automating processes. 
  • A team-centric attitude, with the ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues across departments. 
  • Self-directed with a strong ability to manage tasks independently while maintaining alignment with team goals. 
  • Strong oral, written, and presentation skills, with the ability to communicate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences. 
  • Authorization to work in the U.S. (visa sponsorship or C2C opportunities not available at this time). 
  • Willing to submit to a pre-employment background check 
An ideal candidate will also have 
  • Experience with Azure data services such as Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, and Azure Data Pipelines is preferred. 
  • Experience with ASP.NET and C# programming is a plus.

Availability and Travel   
  • This hybrid role complies with our company’s hybrid telework schedule. Our operating days and hours are Monday through Friday from 8:00 AM to 4:30 PM, with in-office days being Tuesday through Thursday, reserving Monday and Friday as work-from-home. 
  • Occasionally, business needs may require periodic work obligations outside of core business hours. 
  • This role may require occasional travel, including overnight stays for training, conferences, or other events with reimbursement available for approved accommodations and/or expenses
