Wellness Department Head

Winsor is seeking an experienced health educator to lead the Wellness Department, teach health classes in both divisions, and develop and steer initiatives and programming. Ideally, candidates will have experience developing curriculum and teaching middle and high school students, and will have a proven track record of capable leadership. Department Heads are responsible for hiring, teacher evaluation, curriculum, and sectioning as well as the ongoing professional development of each member of the department. Flexibility and a growth mindset as well as the ability to communicate clearly and collaborate effectively is necessary.
A commitment to community and inclusion work, an understanding of the importance of teacher engagement in community life, and an interest in using a variety of pedagogical approaches in the classroom are essential. The ability to use technology effectively in the teaching and learning process is also important. Responsibilities
Curriculum & Instruction

Refine, implement, and assess a comprehensive standards-based wellness curriculum for students grades 5-12.

Teach health classes to students in grades 5-11.
Department Leadership

Lead a team of wellness professionals, including another health educator, two counselors, and a school nurse, and support their professional growth.

Manage departmental budget.

Help to develop department and community policies.

Chair hiring committees for health teacher positions, as needed, including screening candidates, interviewing, reference checking, and collecting feedback.

Connect with other schools and leaders in the field of wellness to align with and determine best practices.

Serve as a member of Academic Council/Department Heads Committee and other ad hoc committees, as assigned.
Community

Develop, implement, and assess annual programming, including student and family events as well as grade-level specific events.

Provide training & oversight for wellness-focused clubs, including Peer Support, a group of 11th and 12th grade student leaders.

Collaborate with deans, class coordinators, and division heads on SEL programming and advisory.

Foster relationships with organizations to build community programs that connect Winsor students to the greater Boston community and outside wellness-focused organizations.
Other duties, as assigned, which typically include advising a group of students in the Upper or Lower School, proctoring, and occasional chaperoning responsibilities.
