Job Overview
The Wise Fool is a new concept in the Old North End of Burlington serving falafel, shawarma and other staples of Middle Eastern street food. We are currently takeout-only but will be expanding to dine-in in the fall. We’re seeking responsible, dedicated and reliable folks to join our kitchen staff on a full and part-time basis. Shifts start and end later than the average restaurant in the area, so if you’re a night owl this job may be perfect for you! Every member of the team is paid a base salary of $15 per hour and share equally in a weekly tip pool - average take-home pay is usually between $25 and $30 per hour. 50% discount on food for staff as well as free shift meals when working.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and cook menu items.
- Responsible for all station mise-en-place.
- Maintain a clean and organized work station at all times.
- Follow all direction from chef, sous chef and other managers.
- Help other cooks clean kitchen and do dishes at the end of every service.
Qualifications
- Proven experience as a cook in the food industry or food service environment is preferred.
- Strong culinary skills with knowledge of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures.
- Ability to work efficiently in a high-pressure environment while maintaining attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
- Knowledge of food handling procedures and safety regulations is essential.
- A passion for cooking and creativity in meal preparation is highly valued.
