Summary of Duties: Under the general supervision of the Aquatics Program Coordinator, the Swim Team Coach will instruct swim team participants on swimming stroke techniques. Swim Team Head Coach will be responsible for writing and instructing appropriate lesson plans for practices. Swim Team Assistant Head Coach will take direction from the Swim Team Head Coach during practices and swim meets. Responsible for providing aquatic learning in a safe environment.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must be knowledgeable of swim stroke techniques and practice and meet procedures and standards.
- Instruct swim team participants on swimming stroke techniques, endurance, starts and turn.
- May be required to enter the water and demonstrate swimming techniques as needed.
- Understand and take direction from the Swim Team Head Coach on appropriate workouts each day for age group and skill level, must be present each day with swimmers and minimize on deck distractions.
- Ensure swim team practices run properly and start on time.
- Observe and notify facility staff of any pool maintenance needs and safety hazards.
- Enforce department rules and policies as outlined in The Woodlands Township Employee Handbook, The Woodlands Township Swim Team Manual, and NWAL Handbook and code of conduct.
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and Swim Team Head Coach(es).
- Communicate effectively with patrons and employees to ensure a safe and professional work environment. Responsible for informing Swim Team Head Coach(es) of any issues that arise outside scope of work.
- Must be present at every practice and meet, and find adequate coverage as needed. This includes time trials, dual meets, home and away, invitational meets.
- Required to work a flexible schedule to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and special events.
- Required to attend all orientation meetings and trainings.
- Wear prescribed uniform.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Additional Responsibilities for Swim Team Head Coach:
- Responsible for writing practices beforehand for each age group.
- Oversee Swim Team Assistant Head Coaches to ensure they understand the workouts and teach them prior to the start of practice.
- Prepare appropriate workouts each day for age group and skill level, must be present each day with swimmers and minimize on deck distractions.
- Communicate effectively with participants, parents, and Recreation Specialist(s).
- Communicate effectively with patrons and employees to ensure a safe and professional work environment. Responsible for informing Recreation Specialist(s) of any issues that arise outside scope of work.
Supervisory Responsibilities: The Swim Team Assistant Head Coach position does not have supervisory responsibilities. While under the general supervision of the Aquatics Program Coordinator, the Swim Team Head Coach is responsible for the development and training of the Swim Team Assistant Head Coaches.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Education: High School diploma or General Education Degree (GED).
Experience: One (1) to two (2) years of previous swim team or swim lesson experience depending on position.
Licenses and Certifications:
- Must possess a valid Texas driver's license and meet the driver safety policy requirements.
- Must pass the NWAL Team Representative online test.
Age Requirement: Must be 18 years of age or older by April 1, 2025.
Scheduling Demands:
- Must be available to work from April to June (anticipated working hours are listed below).
- April to End of May – 4:15pm to 9:30pm
- End of May to June – 7:00am to 12:00pm
- Must attend all swim meets.
- Must be present at all practices and meets.
- Participate in weekly meetings with Swim Team Head Coach(es) and Recreation Specialist(s).
- Required to attend all orientation meetings and trainings.
Pre-employment Requirements: Must pass pre-employment drug screen, background check, Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) check, and Social Security Number verification check.
Computer Skills: Computer proficiency in MS Office preferred.
Safety-Sensitive: This position is a safety sensitive position and is subject to random drug testing.
