RISE Food & Beverage Hospitality Internship

Summary:

The RISE Food & Beverage Internship is a 10 to 12-week program that provides Food & Beverage and Hospitality students with meaningful experience that compliments their coursework and provides a diversified foundation for their future careers. Through a structured rotational approach, interns will gain real-life experience in the Food & Beverage and Hospitality industry, working at the luxurious Woodmark Hotel on the shore of Lake Washington. The program will include hands-on training in all aspects of The Woodmark's Food & Beverage department. Throughout the program, interns will complete a term project and present it at the end of their program at the monthly manager’s meeting where they will be evaluated and given feedback.

The RISE Rotational Internship will include:

  • 10 to 12-weeks in a frontline position in different areas of Food & Beverage
  • Attendance to the monthly managers meetings.
  • Training and mentorship from our team of professional managers.
  • Job-shadow hours in an additional field of choice, such as Human Resources, Sales, or Finances.

  • Experience preparing and presenting to a management team.

Responsibilities:

  • Learn day-to-day operations while rotating through the key frontline roles.
  • Complete assigned project and present to The Woodmark management team.
  • Reliable, punctual, with dependable attendance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Guest Service & Satisfaction:
    • Demonstrate a strong commitment to exceptional customer service and guest satisfaction at all times.
    • Address and resolve guest concerns promptly, ensuring an outstanding experience.
    • Provide guests with general information regarding hotel amenities, special events, and services.
    • Greet guests warmly and offer a sincere farewell, ensuring a personal connection through the use of their name and good eye contact.
  • Staff Leadership & Development:
    • Promote a positive and productive work environment, boosting associate morale.
    • Foster an organized, calm, and professional approach to managing stressful situations among the team.
  • Operational Oversight:
    • Assist with the setup and teardown of banquet spaces according to Banquet Event Orders (BEO), ensuring flawless execution of events.
    • Review and communicate BEO details to the team, ensuring proper layouts, service delivery, and equipment setups are in place.
    • Coordinate with culinary and A/V teams to ensure seamless event execution.
    • Monitor the cleanliness, layout, and attractiveness of banquet spaces, table settings, buffets, receptions, and coffee breaks.
    • Maintain pristine conditions in restaurant and banquet areas, including side stations and storage rooms.
    • Support the maintenance and efficient operation of restaurant and banquet systems and equipment.
  • Financial Management:
    • Assist in the security of cash, credit, and financial transactions, adhering to all cash handling and PCI guidelines.
    • Support the development of budgets for restaurant and banquet services, helping monitor expenses and implement cost control measures.
    • Assist in forecasting and tracking banquet event revenues, adjusting strategies to meet financial goals.
    • Help manage par levels for supplies and equipment, ensuring they are well-stocked.
  • Safety, Hygiene, & Sanitation:
    • Enforce high standards of hygiene and sanitation in restaurant and banquet areas, ensuring proper handling, cleaning, and sanitation of all equipment, china, glassware, and silverware.
    • Stay vigilant to safety issues such as broken glass, frayed electrical cords, and other hazards, reporting any incidents promptly.
    • Ensure proper handling of lost and found items, always respecting guest property.
    • Report necessary repairs (e.g., broken fixtures, plumbing issues) to the supervisor for immediate attention.
  • Communication & Collaboration:
    • Facilitate effective communication across teams and departments, ensuring all necessary information is conveyed clearly.
    • Attend relevant hotel, department, and division meetings to stay updated on policies, trends, and upcoming events.
    • Build strong relationships with key departments such as culinary, housekeeping, and A/V teams to facilitate smooth event execution.
  • Administrative & Miscellaneous Duties:
    • Stay informed on hotel amenities, special events, and any changes to procedures or policies.
    • Ensure all staff adhere to the Woodmark Hotel dress code and appearance standards.
    • Maintain accurate time records and adhere to scheduled work hours.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of restaurant and banquet services.
  • Qualifications

    • Current enrollment in a Bachelor's degree program, or recently graduated.
    • Available to complete a 10 to 12-week program (May 2025 to August 2025).
    • A cumulative 3.0 GPA or higher.
    • Experience utilizing basic math skills with ability to add, subtract multiply and divide
    • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
    • Ability to read, write, and interpret instructional documents such as reports and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to work weekends and holidays as needed
    • Ability to work various shift times that may include mornings, mid-days, and evenings
    • Schedules may include working evenings, weekends, and holidays.
    • Must have unrestricted work authorization in the US.
    • No housing or relocation will be provided.
    • This position involves regular walking, standing, hearing, and talking.
    • May involve stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
    • Involves use of hands and fingers for typing on keyboard and using a mouse.
    • Ability to lift up to 30 pounds.
