Woods Hole Group is looking for team members with a range of experience and specializations in planning, science, and/or engineering to join our Climate & Sustainability Team. The Climate Resiliency Specialist will lead or support climate vulnerability assessment, adaptation planning, and implementation projects for coastal communities, infrastructure, and habitats. Based on a foundational understanding of climate change and its impacts on the built environment, society, and natural systems, and leveraging Woods Hole Group’s state-of-the-practice modeling capabilities, they will collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams on field work, desktop assessments, collaborative problem-solving, and stakeholder engagement to help our clients build a more resilient and sustainable future. The Climate Resiliency Specialist will contribute to high quality, on-time, and cost-effective work products, and, with progressive experience, interface directly with clients, lead project teams, and develop new business opportunities.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Climate Resiliency Specialist will support or lead the following types of tasks:
- Perform climate vulnerability assessments
- Develop and evaluate climate adaptation and resilience alternatives
- Deliver public meeting presentations and stakeholder workshops
- Collect and analyze field data and stakeholder survey data
- Process and analyze geospatial data
- Prepare tables, charts, maps, and graphics
- Write technical reports and memoranda
- Write climate adaptation/resilience and FEMA hazard mitigation plans
- Perform consulting and project management tasks
- Support proposal preparation, business development, and external marketing
SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Depending on experience level may include managing or mentoring of junior level staff.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Ideal candidates will be creative, strategic, motivated, and collaborative, with excellent attention to detail and a commitment to quality.
Qualified candidates for Climate Resiliency Specialist positions will have the following:
- 0-8 years of related experience.
- BA/BS in environmental management, environmental science, coastal science, urban/regional planning, economics, environmental design, architecture, landscape architecture, civil/environmental engineering, or related field.
- Knowledge of and/or experience in climate adaptation/resilience or hazard mitigation planning.
- Excellent oral, visual, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Proficiency using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and ArcMap
- Proof of eligibility for employment in the United States.
Highly qualified candidates will have one or more of the following:
- Master’s degree in environmental management, environmental science, coastal science, urban/regional planning, economics, environmental design, architecture, landscape architecture, civil/environmental engineering, or related field.
- Knowledge of local, state, and federal regulations for building design and coastal projects.
- Familiarity with coastal processes, geology and wetland communities.
- Experience in the design or construction of traditional (gray) or nature-based (green) flood mitigation solutions.
- Working knowledge of one or more infrastructure systems, their vulnerabilities, and relevant adaptation strategies.
- Skills using visualization software such as Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, or other related tools.
- Skills using ArcGIS Pro and ArcGIS Online,
- Familiarity with FEMA or other damage estimation and benefit-cost analysis applications.
- Skills using Python programming language and/or Arcade scripting language.
- Written and oral fluency in Spanish.
