Position Summary :

The Woods Hole Group is seeking a Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) to join our team in Bourne, MA support our survey and drafting team for a diverse portfolio of projects. With over 35 years of experience in solving complex environmental challenges, we focus on creating sustainable solutions for clients across coastal, oceanic, and wetland environments.

Typical projects include coastal resilience, shore protection / structures, erosion control, flood risk reduction, sediment management / dredging, nature based solutions, infrastructure improvements, coastal / wetland restoration, and climate change planning projects. The ideal candidate would have the ability to lead / coordinate / perform both the surveying efforts in the field and the drafting of plans at the office. This includes data acquisition and processing, design of engineering alternatives, development of construction plans and specifications, support of permit applications, and assist with construction documents. The candidate must have the ability to work independently in a team setting, be open to learning on the job, and support project management.

Duties and Responsibilities :

Leading / coordinating / performing surveying efforts with a wide range of GPS / GNSS and conventional survey techniques Drafting and development of base plans and engineering design plans with property bounds determinations.
Drafting design plans for environmental permits, construction plans and specifications
Signing and sealing survey plans
Report writing and developing presentation materials including figures, tables, and deliverables.
Support business development including preparation of proposals and cost estimates
Work successfully with other motivated team members to achieve project goals
Engagement with clients and stakeholders
Personal task management, adherence to project deadlines & scope

Supervisory Responsibilities :

Knowledge, Skills, and / or Abilities Required :

Registered Professional Land Surveyor (PLS) in the state of Massachusetts required.

Minimum of 5 years of related experience.

Bachelor’s degree in surveying and mapping, geomatics, civil engineering or a closely related field is required.

Experience with GPS / GNSS and conventional survey techniques and instrumentation such as RTK GPS and total stations. Knowledge of bathymetric surveying, aerial (drone) surveying, wetland delineation, or imaging / scanning / LIDAR technology a plus.

Experience with AutoCAD Civil3D or equivalent platforms; ArcGIS experience a plus.

Experience drafting plans for permit applications including but not limited to NOI, MEPA, Chapter 91, and Army Corps.

Requires advanced knowledge of local survey laws, surveying principles, techniques and procedures, occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Proficiency in business software including MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.

Excellent English oral communication, technical writing, interpersonal, and teamwork skills are required.

Must be willing to report to the office in Bourne, MA

Must have a valid drivers license.

Ability to legally work in the US (US Citizen or Work Visa).

Physical Requirements :

Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to regularly drive to jobsites and meetings outside of the office.

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds at a time.

Must be able to access and navigate projects sites with varying terrain.

Activities may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.
