The Woods:
For over 75 years, The Woods Camp has offered campers of all ages a multitude of exciting and rewarding camp experiences. Our Camp consists of 128 acres of woods, hills, and farmland with Lake 12 at the epicenter of our camp, WI. Programs include an extensive summer camp program annually serving 1200 campers aged 7-18 in one-week camp sessions, and 2 family camp weekends. Programming takes place primarily from June to August with the addition of fall weekends for guys and girls and winter weekend outings throughout January and February. We also facilitate weekend retreat groups and youth groups from August - May.
Position Summary:
The Food Service Director’s responsibility is to help bring Christ-like change in people’s lives by providing outstanding meals and excellent customer service for our different programs and rental groups during all seasons of the year to maximize efficiency and good stewardship of food and other food service resources at The Woods. This is a year round position located in Fredonia, WI. Job Responsibilities:
General
- Adhere to the The Woods doctrinal statement in faith and practice.
- Abide by the The Woods Staff Code of Conduct.
- Keep an encouraging, professional, and Christ-like attitude around campers, volunteers, and paid staff.
- Wear clean and unstained clothing while working in the Kitchen area.
- Full-time with an average of 40 hours a week (meaning that some weeks in the summer will require more than 40 hours and some weeks during the off season will require less than 40 hours.
- Work and be on call during group rental or Camp program days/weekends/weeks.
- Take at least one day off per week (dependent on staffing during Summer programming).
- Experience an annual staff evaluation.
- Use approved vacation time.
- Report to Camp Director.
Kitchen and Dish Areas
- Perform duties in relation to preparing, cooking, and baking food for group rentals and Camp programs including meals and snacks.
- Maintain kitchen, dish, and dining hall areas in compliance with all applicable Wisconsin Health codes, Food Handling Codes, and The Woods Guidelines for Food Service.
- Be available to receive and approve all deliveries of food and supplies.
- Train volunteers and paid staff as help is needed.
- Oversee all work, volunteers, and paid staff in Kitchen, Dish, and Dining Hall areas.
- Ensure food preparation, handling, and cleaning checklists and procedures are adhered to.
- Participate in all meal preps year-round.
- Oversee development and implementation of written standard operational procedures for efficient and effective food preparation and distribution.
- Oversee and coordinate equipment maintenance and repairs.
- Develop a standard and schedule for deep cleans of all food service equipment.
Staff/Volunteers
- Attend weekly Staff Meetings.
- Assist in recruiting and scheduling seasonal food service volunteers.
- Train and develop current volunteers to improve efficiency and good stewardship of resources.
- Hold volunteers accountable to ensure a healthy and safe facility according to Health Department and internal standards.
- Oversee development and implementation of written quality standards for the presentation and service of food at tables and counters.
- Work with the Camp Administrator to analyze food and material costs, looking for cheaper options while keeping quality, efficiency and inventory control in mind.
- Communicate regularly with program directors to ensure a healthy relationship and dialogue of guest needs/wants, placing a high value on guests needs and wants.
Menu
- Work with program staff to develop a family style menu, outdoor meal, or catered menu that is guest focused, yet takes into account waste reduction, cost, and production efficiency.
- Often lobby for food service feedback from guests, staff, and kitchen volunteers and evaluate solutions based on feedback.
- Regularly revisit procedures to serve guests and staff with food allergies.
Dining Hall
- Clean and maintain an orderly appearance in the Dining Hall.
- Create a deep-cleaning schedule for the Dining Hall.
Supply / Office
- Create and implement an efficient system for food inventory and ordering.
- Oversee food ordering and inventory from vendors and distributors.
- Follow proper receiving, storage, and preparation methods in compliance with all applicable Wisconsin Health codes, Food Handling Codes, and The Woods Guidelines for Food Service to ensure all food items are maintained at a high quality until consumed.
- Keep records in accordance with the law and camp policies and procedures.
Minimum Qualifications:

- At least 18 years of age
- Ability to manage peers, staff, summer, seasonal, and hourly volunteers in a positive and respectful way when they are working under your supervision.

- Constant attitude of enthusiasm, taking initiative, willingness to learn, integrity at work, and flexibility
- Passion and ability to cook meals under time constraints for several hundred people in a family style, buffet, or short order setting
- Ability to lift 60 lbs, stand for many hours consecutively while working in the kitchen, bend squat, be on hands and knees while cleaning, climb stairs, and be around strong cleaning chemicals on a daily basis.
- Ability to work early in the morning, late at night, and some days for many hours consecutively.

- At least one day off per week. During Summer programming we will work together to make arrangements for coverage on your day off.

- You MAY volunteer to help around Camp in duties NOT included in this job description.
