The Wooten Company’s Raleigh, NC headquarters is seeking a team-focused, innovative Mechanical Engineer with strong technical experience and leadership desire to join our Building Systems Group. The Building Systems Group is made up of architectural and MEP-FP design professionals that provide client-centered attention to both public and private building owners throughout the Carolinas.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Ability to manage workflows to accomplish mechanical design as lead engineer.
- Design mechanical systems for buildings that are energy efficient and sustainable.
- Perform load calculations and energy modeling.
- Develop conceptual, detailed, and permit documents throughout all project phases.
- Generate necessary engineering design computations to support the design.
- Ability to design of mechanical and plumbing systems.
- Assist with the Project Advertisement, Bidding, and Contracting.
- Effectively communicate with project team verbally and in person.
- Maintain a firm understanding of mechanical and plumbing engineering design.
- Coordinate with other disciplines as required and working alongside our regional office staff in NC and SC.
- Ability to work independently, but in a team setting, to drive projects through design and construction phases.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- BS in Mechanical Engineering
- A history of project design experience in the Engineering and Architectural industry.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience as a Professional Engineer (PE) in a consulting engineering environment
- Licensed PE (NC preferred).
- USGBC LEED certification / sustainable design experience, a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
- Commercial, institutional, governmental, and/or healthcare facilities design knowledge.
- Understanding of mechanical codes and standards
- AutoCAD & Revit - both required

The ideal candidate possesses the ability to provide project design, with the growth opportunity to become a project manager where team leadership, and other qualities including certification of contract documents, client interface, and project schedule management will be essential. This position requires licensure as a Professional Engineer.

With a diverse offering of project types, this candidate can expect to work on projects such as educational facilities (K-12 and higher education), mission critical facilities and municipal facilities. Field visits are occasionally required, with the ability to directly influence our company growth objectives by leveraging client facing interactions and creating business development opportunities for our design teams.
Who will you be working with?
The Mechanical Project Engineer will be working within the Building Systems Group and interfacing closely with other engineering teams. Our clients include both internal architects and engineers, and external architectural clients and project owners. Our clientele is varied and includes universities, school systems, private owners, and information technology manufacturers.
Where will you be working? - You have options!
Our headquarters in Raleigh, NC is where this position would be preferably located, however this person can also potentially work from any of our 5 regional offices if Raleigh is not a suitable location. Conveniently nestled in the Glenwood South District, our Raleigh office is surrounded with restaurants and nightlife, unique shops, art galleries and studios, and convenient apartment and condominium living. The Wooten Company's regional offices are in Wilmington, Winston-Salem, Greenville, and Hickory, NC as well as Columbia, SC. With enough experience all offices potential options for a home base for this position.
