Summary:

The Workforce Group (WFG) is seeking a qualified and experienced Boat Captain to assist with marine debris monitoring efforts. This role involves providing safe and reliable transportation for debris monitors in designated waterways. The ideal candidate will have their own vessel (such as a skiff or deck boat), required safety equipment, and be willing to obtain necessary insurance once activated. This position is essential for supporting environmental initiatives by ensuring safe access to debris monitoring areas.

Location: Florida Statewide

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Safely transport monitors to and from designated areas, assisting them in accessing and surveying specific waterways for debris.
  • Maintain all required safety equipment for both the captain and passengers, ensuring compliance with local and federal safety regulations.
  • Ensure that the boat is in optimal condition and equipped for marine monitoring activities, with regular maintenance and checks.
  • Provide guidance on navigating waterways and identifying areas impacted by marine debris.
  • Collaborate effectively with marine debris monitors to coordinate transportation schedules and ensure timely completion of monitoring tasks.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Valid boat captain's license (as required by state/local regulations) with preferred 2 years of experience. Ability and willingness to obtain the necessary insurance for the vessel and position upon activation. Must own a vessel suitable for the job, such as a skiff boat, Dek Kat or deck boat.

  • Experience in safely operating a vessel in various water conditions.
  • Knowledge of local waterways and marine environments is highly desirable.
  • Ability to provide and maintain required safety equipment for both captain and passengers.
  • Strong attention to detail with a focus on safety and compliance.
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills to coordinate with marine debris monitoring teams.
  • Ability to adapt to changing conditions and assist with navigational needs as required.
