Summary:
Workforce Group is seeking an experienced Building Official to oversee permitting, code compliance, and inspection efforts as part of the disaster recovery response in Florida. This role plays a critical part in expediting the rebuilding process by ensuring that all reconstruction projects meet Florida Building Code standards and local ordinances. The Building Official will manage building inspectors, plan reviewers, and intake staff to ensure operational efficiency and safety in recovery operations. Short-term Assignment / Contract
Responsibilities:
- Direct and manage the review, approval, and issuance of permits for new construction and emergency repairs.
- Oversee field inspections to ensure compliance with state building codes, ordinances, and safety regulations.
- Collaborate with contractors, engineers, and municipal staff to expedite rebuilding and recovery efforts.
- Supervise and coordinate the work of licensed inspectors, plan examiners, and permit intake staff.
- Interpret and enforce the Florida Building Code and local municipal codes for residential, commercial, and public structures.
- Monitor permit applications, plan reviews, and inspection reports for quality assurance.
- Provide leadership in disaster recovery by resolving code compliance issues efficiently.
- Stay current with updates to building codes, safety protocols, and recovery best practices.
- Other related job duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Valid certification as a Florida Building Official in accordance with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).
- Extensive knowledge of the Florida Building Code and local ordinances.
- Experience in disaster recovery, emergency management, or expedited permitting processes preferred.
- Proven leadership skills with experience managing building inspectors and administrative teams.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills for working with contractors, municipal agencies, and community stakeholders.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines during disaster recovery efforts.
- Familiarity with emergency response protocols and FEMA requirements.
- Expertise in digital permitting systems and inspection management software.
