Summary:
The Workforce Group (WFG) is seeking a Florida Code Enforcement Officer who is responsible for enforcing municipal codes, zoning laws, and other regulations governing property use, health, and safety within Florida jurisdictions. The officer conducts field inspections, investigates complaints, and ensures compliance with local and state codes to maintain community standards. Additionally, the officer communicates with property owners, tenants, and contractors to guide them in meeting code requirements and fosters an environment of public safety and quality of life.

Location: Port Orange, FL (Volusia County)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct inspections of residential and commercial properties to verify compliance with Florida building, zoning, safety, and health codes.
  • Investigate and document code violations, including property maintenance, zoning, unpermitted construction, and health and safety issues.
  • Issue notices of violation, citations, and other enforcement actions as needed to encourage compliance with codes and regulations.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for public complaints, responding to inquiries about code requirements and enforcement actions.
  • Maintain detailed records of inspections, violations, and enforcement actions, ensuring documentation aligns with regulatory and reporting standards.
  • Collaborate with local government departments, contractors, and the public to facilitate compliance with state and municipal codes.
  • Provide guidance and assistance to property owners, businesses, and the public to promote understanding and adherence to relevant laws.
  • Attend and provide testimony at hearings or court proceedings, presenting evidence and documentation for enforcement cases.
  • Monitor area developments and conduct periodic re-inspections of properties with prior violations to confirm corrective actions are completed.
  • Conduct outreach to educate the public and community members about code compliance, health standards, and safety regulations.
  • Participate in training to stay updated on code amendments, enforcement techniques, and best practices.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Florida Association of Code Enforcement (FACE) Level I Certification required. Minimum 1 year experience in code enforcement, public safety, law enforcement, construction, or a related field.

  • Strong knowledge of Florida building codes, zoning laws, and property use regulations.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to effectively engage with the public, explain regulatory requirements, and resolve conflicts.
  • Proficiency with data management software and Microsoft Office applications for record-keeping and reporting.
  • Ability to handle difficult situations with professionalism and exercise sound judgment in enforcement decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple cases, prioritize tasks, and meet reporting deadlines.
  • Valid Florida driver's license and reliable transportation for conducting field inspections.
