Summary:
Workforce Group is seeking a detail-oriented Permit Technician with Floodplain Experience to support permitting operations for recovery efforts in Florida. This role involves processing permit applications, ensuring compliance with local and federal floodplain regulations, and coordinating with contractors and government officials. The Permit Technician will play a vital role in expediting the permitting process, focusing on projects in flood-prone areas, and ensuring alignment with FEMA and NFIP guidelines. Short-term Assignment / Contract
Responsibilities:
- Receive and process permit applications for residential, commercial, and public projects, ensuring completeness and accuracy.
- Verify that applications comply with FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP) and local floodplain management regulations.
- Provide technical support to builders, contractors, and the public on permitting requirements, flood zones, and building code compliance.
- Collaborate with floodplain managers, engineers, and inspectors to streamline permit issuance for rebuilding projects.
- Use Geographic Information Systems (GIS) to confirm flood zone locations and assess floodplain requirements.
- Assist with the issuance of elevation certificates and documentation needed for flood-prone developments.
- Track permit status, coordinate with inspectors, and maintain accurate records of all issued permits.
- Support public education efforts by explaining permit processes and floodplain regulations to residents and stakeholders.
- Other related job duties as required.
Qualifications:
- Certification as a Certified Permit Technician (ICC) or similar credential preferred.
- Experience as a Permit Technician or related administrative role in a municipal building department.
- Familiarity with NFIP guidelines, flood maps, and local floodplain ordinances.
- Knowledge of the Florida Building Code and disaster recovery permitting processes preferred.
- Proficiency in GIS software for identifying flood zones and supporting floodplain management efforts.
- Experience working with digital permitting systems and inspection software.
- Familiarity with FEMA Elevation Certificates and related documentation processes.
- Detail-oriented with excellent organizational skills to manage permit applications and compliance records.
