What are the responsibilities and job description for the Nutrition Sensitive Social Protection consultant position at The World Bank?
Background:
The World Bank’s Social Protection and Jobs (SPJ) GP seeks to enhance the impact on food and nutrition security (FNS) achieved through its social protection programs. To provide evidence-based support to projects on how to integrate best practices in FNS, the global unit has started comprehensive review of Social Protection projects to analyze various entry points and operational approaches that maximize returns on FNS. As part of this effort, we are seeking: 1 analytical consultant to finalize the review, extract best practices, assess impacts, and provide recommendations for strengthening future interventions; 2 operational consultants that will be integrated in regional World Bank operations teams, helping them adopt best practices on FNS in all relevant social protection projects under development.

Terms of Reference for analytical consultant
Objective:
The primary objective of this consultancy is to support the analytical aspects of the evidence stock-take including literature reviews, data collection, and evaluation of social protection projects with a food security and nutrition focus.
Scope of Work:
· Prepare comprehensive research reports, summaries, and presentations that effectively communicate findings to stakeholders.
· Conduct literature review of relevant projects, policies, and frameworks.
· Finalize database compiling nutrition-sensitive SP projects over the past decade.
· Collect and analyze qualitative data from project evaluations, reports, and studies.
· Utilize data visualization tools to assess project impact.
· Prepare guidance notes on nutrition sensitive social protection designs.
· Engage with stakeholders, including World Bank staff, to gather insights on project outcomes.
· Develop analytical reports, presentations, and summary briefs on key findings.
Qualifications and Skills:
· Master’s or PhD in economics, public policy, development studies, or a related field.
· Strong analytical and research skills, including experience with statistical software (e.g., SPSS, Stata, R, or Python) preferred.
· Proven experience in evaluating social protection, food security, and nutrition programs.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Experience working with international organizations, particularly the World Bank, is preferred.
· Proficiency in English; additional languages (French, Spanish, or Arabic) are an advantage.
Terms of Reference for operational consultants
Objective:
The primary objective of this consultancy is to provide nutritional expertise and insights to regional operations in preparation to strengthen design of nutrition sensitive social protection projects.
Scope of Work:
· Support the integration of FNS best practices in several WB SPJ pipeline operations.
· Provide regional perspectives on implementation challenges and opportunities.
· Engage with country teams and project stakeholders to gather field-level insights.
· Conduct interviews and focus group discussions with project teams and beneficiaries.
· Contribute to reports and presentations summarizing key operational findings and recommendations.
Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in development studies, social protection, nutrition, or a related field.
· At least five years of operational experience in social protection, food security, and/or nutrition programs.
· Regional experience working in Africa, Asia and/or Latin America.
· Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
· Familiarity with World Bank operations and procedures is strongly preferred.
· Language skills in English, French, Spanish, and/or Arabic.
