POSITION SUMMARY
This position provides quality service to patients and providers in the clinic via accurate, complete, and optimal medical record documentation. The position responsibilities are both medical and administrative. Primarily, the Medical Scribes will serve as a personal assistant to a health care provider, and member of the health care team. Medical Scribes will mainly be responsible for completing the patients’ medical records as dictated by the health care provider and guided by principles of EMR meaningful use, and Wright Center operational policies and procedures. All documentation is to be approved by and completed under the direction of the provider. Hours are subject to change to serve the operational needs of our patients.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
This position reports to the Chief of Administrative Support to the CEO.
DUTIES & ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
While living and demonstrating our Core Values, the Medical Scribe will:
- Become familiar with provider tendencies and provider’s established patient’s condition
- Accompanies the provider into the patient exam room in order to transcribe history and physical exam as stated by the provider during the interview and examination of the patient.
- Transcribes any procedures done by the provider
- The Medical Scribe must sign off and date all entries into the medical record which clearly identifies their role as the Scribe, documenting for the provider
- Assists in completing the chart by tracking the status of results of any lab, x-ray or other evaluations and will continually check on the progress of this data
- HIPAA policies regarding privacy and security of patient health information will be exercised by this position at all times
- The Medical Scribe is involved in patient evaluations. As such, he/she must be sensitive to the patient’s anxiety
- The Medical Scribe must be continually reassuring and cheerful to all patients, regardless of the patient’s affect or condition
- Monitor and appropriately address triages in providers inbox as needed
- Educate physician residents and fellows on billing/coding practices and use of Digital Assistant
- Maintain a safe, secure environment for patients, visitors and co-workers
- Promotes infection control and safety as it related to the patient and employee environments
- Support the President/CEO at the Scranton Administrative Office with any needed administrative and/or clinical duties once patient notes have been completed
- The position works in close support of clinic medical director, physicians, resident physicians and fellows, nurses, care manager and other providers
- Perform other duties as assigned

Requirements
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduate or equivalent
- Previous experience in healthcare (1-3 years). Previous experience working in a medical office preferred
- CMS Certification preferred
- Current BLS Certificate required
- Working knowledge of medical terminology preferred
- Excellent typing skills
- Previous experience in electronic medical records
- Knowledge of and ability to use personal computers/technology effectively; MS Word, Excel, email and PowerPoint
- Strong written and oral communications and interpersonal skills
- Excellent organizational skills and time management
- Demonstrated appropriate knowledge of various required treatments
- Knowledge of Patient Centered Medical Home concept (PCMH) a plus
- Ability to work with minimal supervision as a strong self-motivated worker as well as proven ability to work effectively and efficiently as part of a team
