Job Description
As a Swim Instructor 1, you will be responsible for teaching swim lessons, ensuring safety, and engaging participants under the supervision of the Swim Director or assigned associate. This role requires adherence to YMCA guidelines and levels, as well as local adaptations where necessary.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure the safety of all swimmers during lessons and enforce pool rules
- Report to work on time, wearing uniform, to receive communications and instructions from supervisors
- Conduct classes according to the YMCA Aquatic Program, adapting for local conditions when necessary
- Maintain lesson program efficiency by adhering to standards and evaluating student progress honestly
- Attend scheduled classes; secure substitutes and provide lesson plans if unavoidable absence occurs
Additional Duties
- Assist the Swim Director with administrative tasks
- Prepare the program area with necessary equipment and store it properly
- Engage, orient, and assist participants when not teaching
- Promote quality experiences and engagement within programs and services
- Maintain a professional image and ensure a clean and safe environment
- Work with diverse populations, including all ages, genders, and sexual orientations
- Attend meetings and actively participate
- Incorporate the four character values of the YMCA: Caring, Honesty, Respect, and Responsibility, and adhere to the YCM Code of Conduct
- Communicate the Y mission and objectives to the community
- Assist in other areas as assigned
