Job Summary:
The Yard Butler, a premier landscape company based in Idaho Falls, ID, is seeking an Excavation Project Superintendent with strong leadership skills and hands-on experience in excavation, bidding, and equipment operation, ensuring efficiency, quality, and safety. Originally a leader in landscaping, we expanded into excavation last year to support our general contractors, establishing highly beneficial relationships that we aim to continue and grow. This division has proven valuable, and we’re excited to expand this vision. This role will oversee excavation projects from estimating and bidding through completion, ensuring projects meet deadlines and budgets. In winter, the superintendent will also assist in our snow removal operations, leveraging excavation equipment and expertise to ensure efficient and safe service delivery. We serve clients throughout Idaho Falls and eastern Idaho, with occasional travel into Wyoming or Montana as needed.
Key Responsibilities:
Project Management & Bidding
- Prepare accurate project estimates and bids, including labor, materials, and equipment costs.
- Review project plans, specifications, and site conditions to develop comprehensive project proposals.
- Collaborate with clients, vendors and subcontractors to develop competitive and profitable bids.
- Oversee all phases of excavation, from site preparation to completion, ensuring projects meet deadlines and budgets.
- Work closely with our general contractors to maintain and expand our excavation partnerships, ensuring seamless integration with landscaping projects and meeting contractor needs across Idaho Falls and eastern Idaho.
Crew & Equipment Management
- Supervise and coordinate excavation teams and subcontractors to maximize efficiency.
- Operate and oversee the use of heavy equipment, including excavators, loaders, skid steers, and dozers as needed.
- Ensure proper maintenance and safe operation of excavation equipment.
- In winter, assist in snow removal operations, operating equipment to ensure timely and safe snow clearing for clients and general contractors across Idaho Falls and eastern Idaho.
Safety & Compliance
- Enforce OSHA and company safety regulations, conducting regular safety meetings and site inspections.
- Ensure all excavation work complies with engineering specifications and regulatory requirements.
Scheduling & Coordination
- Develop and maintain project schedules, coordinating with clients, vendors, and other trades to prevent delays.
- Manage material procurement and inventory to ensure timely project completion.
- Coordinate excavation and snow removal schedules to optimize equipment and crew utilization year-round, minimizing downtime and maximizing service delivery across Idaho Falls and easter Idaho.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Experience: Minimum 5 years in excavation, site development, and excavation project management.
- Bidding Experience: Proven ability to estimate and bid excavation projects accurately.
- Equipment Operation: Hands-on experience operating heavy excavation equipment.
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; a degree in construction management is a plus.
- Certifications: OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, and relevant equipment operator certifications preferred.
- Leadership Skills: Strong ability to manage teams, enforce safety, and complete projects efficiently.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in varying conditions, lift heavy materials (up to 50 pounds), and operate equipment as needed, including during winter snow removal operation across Idaho Falls and eastern Idaho.
