What are the responsibilities and job description for the LIVESTRONG at the YMCA Instructor position at the YMCA of Metropolitan Milwaukee?
Facilitate delivery of LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA, provide support and guidance to program participants, and maintain fidelity to the curriculum. LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is an evidence-based physical activity and well-being program designed to help adult cancer survivors reclaim their total health. The 12-week program supports cancer survivors in safely achieving their goals such as building muscle mass and strength, increasing flexibility and endurance, and improving confidence and self-esteem.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Lead energizing, fun, safe and small group classes to accomplish the YMCA mission and goals. Ability to work with participants to address the whole person’s well-being, including spirit, mind and body.
- Complete functional assessments of each participant. Create individual program plans for each participant based on assessment results.
- Cultivate participant commitment and support retention of participants.
- Create a safe, judgment-free, and encouraging environment that is friendly and non-competitive for participants.
- Foster relationships with and between participants.
- Travel to community locations for program delivery as needed.
- Prepare for each session (update individual program plans based on previous week’s results and conversations with participants).
- Be accessible to participants before and after sessions to answer questions and provide follow-up.
- Follow-up with participants outside of class as needed.
- Record bi-weekly data for each participant (attendance and data for all exercises for each session.
- Arrive for class on time and dressed appropriately.
- Connect with Program Manager on a regular basis to update on program and progress and as per any additional expectations outlines.
