POSITION PURPOSE

Under the direct supervision of the Specialized Programs Supervisor, the School Based Programs Coordinator performs a wide variety of routine to moderately difficult responsibilities, specialized administrative, and program-related duties in support of the Jacobs & Cushman San Diego Food Bank’s operations, including oversight of partner activities for programs targeted at serving clients 5-18 years old. This person will be the primary point of contact for Food 4 Kids Backpack Program and On the Go (Middle and High School Pantry program).

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Serve as primary contact to Food 4 Kids Backpack Program (elementary school)

Create Food 4 Kids district delivery calendars, annually.

  • Onboard new schools or school personnel and provide in person support as needed.
  • Ensure backpack bags are packed and delivered on the monthly schedule.
  • Ensure student enrollment paperwork and quarterly reports are completed by 100% of participating schools.
  • Maintain positive relationships with school districts and school sites.

  • Serve as primary contact to On the Go (middle and high school) partners.
  • Create On the Go district delivery calendars, annually.

  • Onboard new schools or school personnel and provide in person support as needed.
  • Ensure On the Go orders are packed and delivered on the monthly schedule.
  • Coordinate with Nutrition Services and Procurement departments on menu creation.
  • Create monthly order sheet based on inventory on hand; communicate and take product orders from participating schools.
  • Develop program outcome metrics and implement measurement of metrics.
  • Ensure 100% compliance with monthly reports from partners.
  • Identify, create and facilitate forum for sharing best practices, procedures and innovative ideas.

  • Administer any pass-through grant funding for capacity purchases, pilot programs, or program enhancements.
  • Arrange and conduct in person and remote monitor visits to ensure compliance and capacity building activities, such as training, to increase the service depth and breadth for community-based partners.
  • Work closely and maintain positive relationships with school partners to assure a seamless experience for students receiving services.
  • Work with Supervisor and NPS Manager on implementing new initiatives to increase services for the 5-18 population in San Diego County.
  • Create, establish and facilitate new partnerships / collaborations that will help expand our county wide efforts, including leading quarterly school-based programs meeting.
  • Recruit and train community partner staff, volunteers and interns on the importance of increasing services among their client base.
  • Keep accurate, detailed records and progress reports on information distributed, contacts and services provided as required. Prepare monthly and quarterly reports on program outreach and participation.
  • Some (infrequent) evening and weekend shifts may be required.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • EDUCATION, TRAINING and EXPERIENCE

    A typical way of obtaining the knowledge, skills and abilities outlined

  • Graduation from a four-year college or university; or at least 3 years of progressively responsible experience in a non-profit organization; or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • Previous work in a school setting a plus.
  • IDEAL CANDIDATE

    The ideal candidate will have superb attention to detail, excellent customer service, be self-motivated, have excellent time management skills, have the ability to work independently with minimal direction, and follow-through. They have the ability to collect and assess data to better serve students and schools. They will embrace communication and keep team members informed of their program successes and challenges. Bilingual (Spanish) a plus.

    SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE & ABILITIES

    Knowledge of :

  • Knowledge of Windows Operating Systems and Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Excel, Word, Power Point).
  • Public speaking principles and practices; and / or customer service.
  • Organizing and maintaining specialized documentation.
  • Correct English usage including spelling, grammar and punctuation.
  • Association and program rules, policies and procedures applicable to assigned areas of work.
  • Ability to :

  • Interpret and explain program policies and procedures.
  • Operate a computer using word processing, spreadsheet and database software applications.
  • Learn Primarius inventory tracking system and related reports.
  • Operate standard office equipment.
  • Communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • Provide excellent customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Utilize effective reflective listening skills with clients and partners.
  • Exercise tact, objectively, sensitivity, strategy and sound judgement with a variety of people in a variety of situations.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with member agencies, representatives of community organizations and other staff.
  • Manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
  • Perform highly detailed work on multiple, concurrent tasks with frequent interruptions.
  • Meet intensive and changing deadlines and interact with officials, staff and the public.
  • Understand and follow written and oral instructions.
  • Frequently travel within San Diego County to distribution sites.
  • LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • A valid California Driver’s License.
  • Must have own vehicle and will receive monthly reimbursements for mileage.
  • Proficient expert skills in Microsoft Excel.
  • COMPENSATION

  • This is a full-time, non-exempt / hourly / benefited position.
  • A market-level competitive salary is between $25.00 - $26.00 per hour based on experience.
  • The compensation package includes a competitive salary and an excellent benefits package including : 403(b) plan with 200% employer matching; excellent health care coverage with free employee medical, dental and vision plans; company paid term life insurance; and a generous accrual of paid vacation and sick leave.
  • WORK SCHEDULE

    This is a regular, full-time and benefited position at 40 hours per week.

  • Days and hours of work are in person Monday-Friday from 8 : 00 am– 4 : 30 pm.
  • This position occasionally requires overtime or weekend shifts.
  • This position is required to travel 50% of the time; travel is primarily within San Diego County; possible opportunity for out of state travel to conferences.
  • Potential for one remote day / week following onboarding period.
