SUMMARY OF POSITION :
The Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation is seeking an Associate Editor. As a member of the Publications Department of the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, the Associate Editor edits exhibition didactics and public-facing printed and digital materials; assists Senior Editors with aspects of exhibition catalogues; and provides administrative support for all departmental business. Guggenheim Publications produces around three books per year, and edits didactics for approximately seven exhibitions per year. This position reports to the Associate Director, Editorial.
SKILL AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS :
- At least 4–6 years of experience in editorial work, preferably in an art-related field, scholarly publishing, or art or culture journals; museum-related editorial experience a plus.
- Solid understanding of modern and contemporary art.
- Knowledge of long-form editing style and scholarly citation practices.
- Ability to implement structure and clarity in texts for diverse audiences.
- Experience in copyediting or copywriting interpretive materials, and / or marketing and communications materials, a plus.
- Able to balance editing responsibilities with project management and administration.
- Self-motivated and able to work both collaboratively and independently.
- Must be able to work with writers of varying levels of publishing experience.
- Highly organized and rigorous sense of detail.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Adobe Acrobat Pro is required.
- Thorough knowledge of style / usage materials, especially the Chicago Manual of Style (online or 17th edition).
- Proficiency with InDesign is preferred.
- Knowledge of other languages is a plus.
- Must be able to pass an editing test.

SALARY RANGE : 72,100 Annually
