Our mission driven client is seeking a Controller. This is a hybrid position with growth opportunity in Portland!
Responsibilities:
• Managing the company’s accounting functions
• Overseeing AP & Payroll and AR accounting professionals
• Preparing the company’s financial reports
• Taking part in the budgeting process
• Implement Grant Reporting & Grant P&Ls
• Responsible for accuracy of month-end journal entries
• Prepares detailed GL for monthly review by CFO
• Responsible for Monthly Close Process
• Prepare monthly financial statements for final review by CFO
• Prepare monthly bank reconciliations
• Assist in Implementation of Auditor’s recommendations
• Responsible for Donor Tracking & Reconciliation with Development
• Management of Fixed Asset Ledger
• Maintains a documented system of accounting policies and procedures
• Oversees the production of periodic financial reports
• Assist the CFO in preparing the annual budgets, forecasts, and financial reports, including reports containing significant budget differences and variances.
Qualifications:
• Requires a minimum of 5 years of experience as a senior-level accounting or finance manager with a non-profit organization or comparable experience with an accounting firm or for-profit company.
• Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration or Accounting. MBA and CPA (active or inactive) are highly desired.
• Experience and knowledge of complex nonprofit accounting issues, including the revenue recognition, compliance, and reporting needs of federal, state, and local governments and private grantors as an employee or mid to senior-level management position with a non-profit entity with at least 100 employees.
• Highly proficient in MIP or Quick Books (Enterprise preferred)/Other Cloud Based Accounting Software Programs
• Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Adobe Acrobat
• Ability to, both independently and collaboratively, solve problems, manage multiple priorities, and move complex projects forward while paying attention to details and deliverables
• Grant management & allocation experience
• Working knowledge of federal, state, and local tax compliance regulations and reporting
