JOB PURPOSE:
Under the direct supervision of the Artistic Director, the Associate Artistic Director will support the facilitation and bring to life the artistic vision of TUTS as set forth by the Artistic Director as it relates to production and education programs through strategic planning, creative management, and day-to-day implementation of artist and student involvement. Responsibilities include but are not limited to, support and/or management of the following areas: pre-production planning, budgeting, and hiring artists, creatives, and artistic support staff through research and casting for Mainstage. This role will have active production oversight, coordination, and support of supplementary programming, reading, educational events, community outreach events, workshops, and other special projects. The Associate Artistic Director will be responsible for proofing, editing, and approving all printed material, video, audio, and other media where the Artistic Department’s vision, work, staff, creatives, artists, or productions are mentioned. This position includes direct contact with all artists and artistic and production personnel.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
ARTISTIC / PRODUCTION
- Serve as Line Producer on all performances and productions at TUTS - Main Stage Productions, Gala Entertainment, and readings/workshops.
- Serve as local Casting Director for mainstage productions and consult when needed with designated staff members on contract negotiations. Facilitate casting Teen Ensemble for Mainstage.
- Works with the Finance Department and Director of Production/Production Manager to create, monitor, and reforecast budgets.
- Cultivate and nurture local artistic and creative talent.
- Serve as liaison with the NYC casting office and AEA for all required casting calls including travel to audition cities.
- Serve as Line Producer on assigned programs, including but not limited to new work development (script assessment/recommendation, readings, and workshops) and digital/online/broadcast projects.
- Communicate with necessary artistic leadership regarding production needs and issues as they come up throughout the rehearsal, preview, and performance period.
- Serve as liaison between artists and internal departments such as Marketing, Development, and Education.
- Attending production meetings, technical rehearsals, and performances, and reporting back to the Artistic Director.
- As a member of the Artistic Staff, cover external performances scout artists in the field, and report back with opinions and recommendations.
- Oversee and manage the Artistic Associate with regard to Company Management, casting, implementation of contracts, and other duties.
- Oversee and manage the Music Supervisor with regard to Music staff and orchestra relations.
- Promote/Advocate TUTS within the Houston community and Nationally.
- Direct for TUTS on the Mainstage and special projects as assigned.
ADMINISTRATIVE
- Facilitate attendance of Artistic Director at rehearsals, technical rehearsals, and performances, as necessary.
- Collaborate with General Manager, Production Manager, and Artistic Associate to provide support to production and artists.
- Facilitate artistic relationships as needed for special events with Development and Marketing
- Copy, edit, and approve programs, press releases, and marketing materials on behalf of the production department.
- Coordinate creative team meetings, design presentations, marketing/press meetings, and artwork presentations.
- Maintain the department’s artistic calendar in collaboration with the Production Manager/Director of Production.
