Summary :
The RN Education and Practice Specialist contributes to the professional development and growth of team members in the practice environment. Assesses for potential practice gaps, identifies learning needs, and creates evidence-based programs and interventions to facilitate outcomes that meet high quality care. Facilitates an inter-professional approach to prevention, treatment, research, education, and advocacy to ensure patient-centered, evidence-based nursing care across the continuum. Leads work, processes, and people to design, develop, implement, document, and modify evidence-based, quality, and educational programs and activities that promote professional competency and role performance for nursing, clinical support roles and non-licensed team members. Generates and evaluates evidence for practice through partnership at the patient, micro-system, and macro-system levels. Supports the Scope and Standards of Nursing Professional Development Practice (NPD) and accountable for the outputs of learning, change, professional role competence and growth, which ultimately lead to optimal patient care, population health, and protection of the public.Job Description:
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Leads clinical practice improvement work to deliver consistent nursing practice standards, top of license clinical competency, nursing sensitive indicators, and clinical quality metrics that achieve top decile performance.
Develops data-driven educational programs and learning opportunities to close knowledge and practice gaps, and utilizes evaluation methods to measure and report outcomes.
Performs as a clinician, educator, consultant, leader, and researcher, aligning resources and practice standards to improve patient care.
Is responsible for the advancement of nursing practice by developing new approaches, methods, or techniques to patient care practice issues, and ensures that clinical standards are met through ongoing evaluation and improvement.
Acts strategically, understands and can manage change, and assists team members through transitions. Advocates for stakeholders to meet strategic goals, and assists team members in understanding how their day-to-day jobs contribute to ThedaCare strategy.
Implements evidence-based education that guides the growth, professional practice, and competency of the healthcare team members.
Leads by example to support operations and hardwire accountability. Serves as an expert resource for designated clinical specialty and provides mentoring and opportunities for growth for team members to meet their professional goals.
Demonstrates emotional intelligence and confidence, maintains composure during conflict. Acts with integrity and sets a positive example at all times.
Provides feedback to peers in a constructive manner and keeps information confidential. Develops and maintains lateral, cross-boundary relationships.
Builds effective teams that achieve results by maintaining positive relationships with leaders, physicians, team members, and other inter-professional colleagues, collaborating to problem solve and improve patient care.
Participates in and/or leads the development and review of policies and procedures across the continuum of care.
Performs assessments and designs plans to meet regulatory requirements related to nursing practice.
Demonstrates ability to provide care or service adjusting approaches to reflect developmental level and diversity of populations served.
Partners with executive leaders, managers/directors, and medical staff leaders to identify priorities, set goals, and clarify overall objectives to achieve success with patient safety and quality improvement initiatives.
Demonstrates, anticipates, and proactively manages risks to prevent crises.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Master’s degree in healthcare, education, quality, leadership, or nursing Current Wisconsin RN license
American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS)
Five years of clinical experience with three years supporting a clinical specialty if relevant
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Ability to move freely (standing, stooping, walking, bending, pushing, and pulling) and lift up to a maximum of twenty-five (25) pounds without assistance
Job classification is not exposed to blood borne pathogens (blood or bodily fluids) while performing job duties
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Frequent exposure to sharp objects and instruments
Occasional exposure to moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risk of electrical shock
Occasional high noise level in work environment
Possible exposure to communicable diseases, hazardous materials, and pharmacological agents
Standing and/or walking for extended periods of time
Transporting, transferring, positioning patients and/or equipment from one location to another; little likelihood for injury if proper body mechanics and procedures are followed
Occasional contact with aggressive and combative patients
Climate controlled office setting with daily movement throughout the hospital campus
Interaction with department members and other healthcare providers
Position requires compliance with department specific competencies.
