Position: Retail Operations Specialist
Location: Theodore Roosevelt National Park, Medora, North Dakota
Reports to: Executive Director/Director of Retail and Education
Status: Full Time Seasonal – March 31, 2025 to November 9, 2025
Salary Range: $20/hour to $22/hour (to be discussed in interview)

Mission Statement
Providing support, services, and educational merchandise to enhance visitor experience and enjoyment through historical, scientific, and educational activities in Theodore Roosevelt National Park and Knife River Indian Villages National Historic Site.

Job Summary
The Retail Operations Specialist will perform a variety of duties related to helping TRNHA achieve our mission including:

1. Providing guidance to seasonal Park Guides and maintaining inventory at the Painted Canyon Visitor Center

2. Store operations and setup

3. Providing information and customer service at all sales locations

4. Assisting with office tasks including but not limited to answering phones, maintaining files, receiving and preparing mail, cleaning, and more.

Basic Qualifications

1. Ability to work independently, with minimum supervision

2. 1 to 2 years of customer service experience

3. 1 to 2 years of retail experience

4. Ability to multi-task and work in a fast-paced environment

5. Ability to stand of extended periods of time and lift boxes of product up to 40 lbs.

6. Valid US driver’s license and favorable driving record.

7. A positive solution driven attitude with a high level of empathy and compassion. Employee must possess excellent interpersonal communication skills.

8. Must be available to work weekends March 31, 2025 to November 9, 2025.

Primary Responsibilities The following duties are normal for this position. The omission of a specific statements of the duties does not exclude them from the classification if the work is similar, related, or a logical assignment for this classification. Other duties may be required and assigned.

Store and Inventory Operations

1. Operating visitor center sales outlets by providing visitor information and performing sales transactions, opening/closing procedures and end of the day reports.

2. Assist with operations activities including staff supervision, displays, signage and promotions at all store location.

3. Manage the Painted Canyon Visitor Center during the busy season including but not limited to: setting up and taking down displays, ensuring inventory is accounted for, overseeing employees assigned to work at Painted Canyon, and assisting with general operations.

4. Provides customer service in person or by telephone; provides information related to visitor center services, facilities, activities, locations, distances, merchandise, charges/fees, procedures, or other issues. You will be asked to direct visitors to points of interest with in the park and surrounding area; provide information regarding programs of TRNHA and the National Park Service.

5. Receive and process merchandise shipments in a timely manner, using point of sale software and inventory management.

6. Assist with store operations by receiving merchandise, unpacking and storing incoming goods, removing goods from shelves, affixing price labels and tags to merchandise.

7. Assisting with TRNHA’s online sales outlet by processing orders and maintaining records of all online, mail, and wholesale orders.

8. Consistently provide excellent customer service, while sharing helpful information regarding products, park and area information.

9. Orient hikers to the conditions and equipment needed to safely explore Theodore Roosevelt National Park.

10. Act as an ambassador of TRNHA and the NPS to ensure park visitors have meaningful and memorable experiences.

11. Keep sales area clean, organized and stocked with appropriate merchandise and signage.

12. Promote TRNHA’s mission through the sales of yearly memberships.

Other Duties

1. Assist TRNHA staff in to planning and host special events, programs, meetings, and activities.

2. Assist with training seasonal TRNHA and NPS staff on operations.

3. Assist with Newsletter and Social Media content
