What are the responsibilities and job description for the Project Engineer (Composites) position at Thermal Structures?
Responsibilities and authority:
- Perform feasibility studies on potential structural composites manufacturing projects and full-cost breakdown studies for projects that pass feasibility review
- Supervise new project development through the manufacturing shop and lead the qualification and approval efforts within the company and with the customer
- Lead material recertification efforts for expired materials, negotiating test requirements with the customer and supervising test sample construction in the manufacturing shop
- Provide clear work instructions in the form of manufacturing travelers and process planning for new projects and revisions/changes for existing projects.
- Represent Engineering during internal Preliminary Review Board meetings for disposition of discrepant hardware.
- Participate in customer audits of the facility, third party audits of the facility and certification or calibration of key facilities equipment
- Provide first line of customer contact for technical issues and questions concerning product, process and qualification efforts
- Infrequent, but possible travel required depending on project type. No more than 10% travel.
Minimum qualifications and experience requirements:
- 4 year Engineering Degree, typically but not limited to mechanical, aerospace or materials disciplines
- At least 2 years engineering experience in a manufacturing environment, preferably aerospace
- Working knowledge of typical aerospace composite materials and traditional processing methods
- Fluent in Word, Excel and PowerPoint, preferably with some experience in a CAD platform
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, with customer contact experience
- Ability to work numerous projects and self-manage schedule/deadlines
- Bi-lingual English/Spanish helpful, but not required
Salary : $70,000 - $110,000
