What are the responsibilities and job description for the Leach Operator position at Thiele Kaolin?
Thiele Kaolin Company, a leading provider of tailored mineral solutions, is currently recruiting for a Leach Operator. This position is located in Deepstep, Georgia.
MAJOR DUTIES:
- Operate Leaching systems and associated equipment per documented work instructions
- Attend Production meetings (day shift – weekdays) prepared to discuss issues/process status (safety issues, pH targets, feed and product specific gravity, chemical addition rates, blending of grades)
- Do buildings walk through and inspect equipment for proper operation i.e. spills, unusual noise, etc.
- Know Leaching process, how to set up, set valves, B tanks and C tanks, grades of clay
- Monitor tank levels B and C tank, Leaching systems on computer screens, pH & product gravities, pumps, chemical levels, tonnage rates, chemical flows
- Check specific gravity on feed, product, and wire pit; send sample to the lab as requested or as needed
- Provide guidance to the PA and screen washers; record on daily sheets required information
- Able to start up and shut down Leaching and associated equipment; able to mix chemical according to grade
- Notify supervisor of any problems and have resolved in a timely manner
- Notify Magnet, Classification, and Filtration operator when changes are made so they can maintain B and C tank levels and grades
- Change grades of clay on Leaching equipment as directed by supervisor or shift line up
- Relay changes to supervisor or his designee so correct Leaching track lines can be set to correct tanks
- Monitor Leaching and equipment for any problems
- Maintain Leaching equipment, wash out as needed to keep at optimum performance
- Clean any type of feed baskets, screens, or socks
- Wash up Leaching area, grease up, if required
- Enter information into Plant Data
- Verify correct chemical addition rates
- On a daily basis make sure water hoses are off and rolled up
- Assign task to designated process assistants
- Maintain and follow accurate Leaching operator work procedures
- Assist in unloading any chemical trucks used at Leaching; assist with interplant pumping when needed or directed
SKILL REQUIREMENTS AND QUALIFICATIONS:
- Knowledge of Quality Policy, in process product specifications, how to access white and message boards, Thiele’s basic safety rules, how to access and use SDS system, how to access and use Plant Data, Site Specific Hazard Awareness, tag and lockout procedures, confined space procedures, how to use hand tools, quality goals and objectives and how your job affects this
- Attend any required MSHA training and any required Thiele training
- Work with little or no supervision and work well with others
- Train on next job level
- Understand MSHA rules and regulations, perform good housekeeping, wear and use proper PPE, perform work place inspections and pre-shift inspections (mobile equipment)
