JOB SUMMARY:
This individual will work with our optometrists to assist in carrying out eye examinations and treatments.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
1. Room patients for eye examination pre-testing, collect patient history, and reason for visit. Document all information in Electronic Health Record (EHR).
2. Perform all pre-testing for patients, following internal protocols, prior to their scheduled appointment with the Optometrist.
3. Follow the direction of an Optometrist, assist in eye examination and testing during appointment.
4. Adhere to the department quality control policies, document all quality control activities, instrument and procedural calibrations and maintenance performed.
5. Identify problems that may adversely affect test performance or reporting of test results and correct or immediately notify manager.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
1. Knowledge of optometric procedures and equipment, accessioning, verifying specimens and specimen requirements
2. Knowledge of optical terminology.
3. Knowledge of HIPAA privacy rules.
4. Skill in communicating in a professional manner, both verbally and in writing.
5. Skill in planning, organizing, and time management.
6. Skill in using a computer and a variety of software, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
7. Skill in managing multiple priorities and problem solving.
8. Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet established goals and objectives.
9. Ability to maintain high levels of professional and personal integrity.
10. Ability to convey professional demeanor and sound judgment in dealing with patients care, protection of patient privacy, and confidentiality.
11. Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
12. Ability to act as a good representative of the company .
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Highschool diploma or GED required. American Heart Association BLS /CPR certification required. A minimum of two (2) year of experience as an Optometric Technician, utilizing electronic Health Records (EHR) required.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
This role operates in a healthcare setting. This position requires frequent standing, walking, and computer work. This position allows employee to moderately vary physical position or activity for comfort.
Must be able to:
- Stand 75% or longer of workday.
- Walk 15% or longer of workday.
- Sit 10% of workday.
Requires ability to lift and maneuver up to 35 pounds occasionally.
Requires employee to: bend, squat, kneel, and reach above shoulder level occasionally and twist occasionally.
Requires repetitive use of hands for: simple grasping, fine manipulation, computer use.
Requires all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing) corrected to near normal range.
