Contract for Clinical Informatics Trainer -HIS
JOB SUMMARY
The Clinical Informatics Trainer prepares and delivers effective learning solutions for clinical end users (i.e., nurses, unit clerks, nursing assistants, ancillary clinicians and physicians) on-site at various locations throughout Cook County Health (CCH) on subjects related to the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) system. Works with all end users to improve functionality, introduce new programs, and conduct orientation for new EMR users. Conducts training utilizing delivery methods to include classroom, unit-based instruction, eLearning, web-based training and one to one coaching sessions.
Typical Duties
- Partners with members of the clinical operations team, those responsible for revenue cycle training, Clinical Informatics staff, and information systems personnel to assess the learning needs and develop appropriate learning opportunities to improve utilization and effectiveness of the EMR system.
- Develops and maintains training resources including course materials, handouts, participant guides, eLearning, webcast, competency assessments, and other learning resources as needed. Updates based on feedback, workflow changes and system changes.
- Analyzes and selects best training method(s) based on audience, desired change, complexity of material, and desired outcomes.
- Delivers training to the end users in a classroom, unit environment, eLearning, web based training, or one to one coaching sessions.
- Participates in unit and integrated testing including updating of test scripts, as needed.
- Develops competencies and assessments to ensure desired actions and functionality are demonstrated. Updates based on feedback, workflow changes and system changes.
- Works with Information Systems to ensure that the training domain is functioning correctly.
- Completes trainer curriculum, including courses in training delivery, instructional design, training templates, eLearning and webcasting. Applies knowledge to meet training standards.
- Creates and maintains instructor guidelines for EMR workflows on respective applications. Ensures procedures match training materials and actual processes/workflows.
- Ensures build is correctly incorporated into all training environments.
- Works toward certification requirements for staff, as directed.
- Travels to various sites throughout CCH to support on-site end user training.
13. Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Three (3) years of experience conducting electronic medical record (EMR) training
- Advanced proficiency in using Microsoft Office Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- Position requires local travel for which the employee must possess a valid driver’s license and insured vehicle or otherwise provide an acceptable and reliable means of transportation
- Must be able to work flexible hours
Preferred Qualifications
- Master’s degree from an accredited college or university
- One (1) year of experience providing end user Cerner training
- Prior experience with Cerner EMR
- Prior experience or training on software to develop web-based training, i.e. Adobe Captivate
- Prior coursework in adult learning theories and strategies
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Other Characteristics
- Knowledge of Cerner EMR System, LCD projector
- Working knowledge of clinical terminology and hospital or medical office operations
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills necessary to communicate with all levels of staff and a patient population composed of diverse cultures and age groups
- Strong program development, project management and leadership skills
- Ability to train by presenting concepts and demonstrating tasks
- Ability to build relationships with staff and to understand their applications
- Ability to be flexible and adaptable in performing training activities
- Demonstrate analytical and organizational, problem-solving, critical thinking, and resolutions skills
Physical and Environmental Demands
This position is functioning within a healthcare environment. The incumbent is responsible for adherence to all hospital and department specific safety requirements. This includes but is not limited to the following policies and procedures: complying with Personal Protective Equipment requirements, hand washing and sanitizing practices, complying with department specific engineering and work practice controls and any other work area safety precautions as specified by hospital wide policy and departmental procedures.
