JOB SUMMARY:
The Physical Therapist partners with patients throughout the rehabilitation process, aiming to restore motion and ensure optimal functioning. This role focuses on enhancing quality of life and movement potential through promotion, prevention, diagnosis, treatment, intervention, and rehabilitation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Assess and interpret evaluations and test results to meet patient goals and needs and provide quality care by determining physical therapy treatment plans in consultation with physicians or by prescription.
- Assist patients in achieving their treatment plans and adapting to therapeutic devices by administering manual exercises and instructing, encouraging, and assisting them in performing physical activities, such as non-manual exercises, ambulatory functional activities, and daily living activities, as well as using assistive and supportive devices like crutches, canes, and prostheses.
- Complete discharge planning by consulting with physicians, nurses, social workers, and other healthcare workers, and contribute to patient care conferences.
- Ensure the continuation of therapeutic plans following discharge by designing home exercise programs, instructing patients, families, and caregivers, recommending and/or providing assistive equipment, and suggesting outpatient or home health follow-up programs.
- Accurately document and maintain clinical records, ensuring patient confidentiality and HIPAA compliance.
- Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols, and maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
- Comply with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation, anticipating future legislation, enforcing adherence to requirements, and advising management on necessary actions.
- Provide crisis intervention as needed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
- Knowledge of biomechanics, anatomy, and physical rehabilitation.
- Proficient in professional communication, both verbally and in writing.
- Skilled in planning, organizing, and time management.
- Competent in using computers and various software, including Electronic Health Records (EHR) software, Word, Excel, Access, and Outlook.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and solve problems effectively.
- Capable of safely and effectively administering physical modalities, including but not limited to electrical stimulation, ice and moist heat, ultrasound, and iontophoresis/phonophoresis.
- Ability to work effectively under pressure to meet established goals and objectives.
- Maintain high levels of professional and personal integrity.
- Demonstrate professional demeanor and sound judgment in patient care, privacy protection, and confidentiality.
- Translate general administrative guidelines into specific actions.
- Represent the company positively.
- Flexible with working hours.
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Successful completion of an accredited Physical Therapy program and a current, unrestricted license to practice as a Physical Therapist in the State of Nebraska, with no previous actions by the board or other governing body.
- A minimum of two (2) years of experience in an outpatient physical therapy setting is preferred, with experience in general orthopedics, neck and spine rehabilitation, balance and fall prevention, and gait and mobility.
WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:
- This role operates in a healthcare setting, requiring frequent sitting and computer work, with the ability to vary physical positions or activities for comfort.
- Must be able to:
- Stand for 65% or more of an 8-hour workday.
- Walk for 30% or more of an 8-hour workday.
- Sit for 5% of an 8-hour workday.
- Requires the ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Requires occasional bending, squatting, kneeling, reaching above shoulder level, and twisting.
- Requires repetitive use of hands for simple grasping, fine manipulation, and computer use.
- Requires all sensory skills (speech, vision, smell, touch, and hearing) to be corrected to near-normal range.
