Client seeks a substation engineer for their growing Substation Engineering Division. This position will produce substation design deliverables for internal and external clients for projects ranging in size and complexity. The ideal candidate for this position will have 5-10 years of substation engineering experience in protection & control designs and have an understanding of the consulting engineering business process. Company is a locally owned and operated business based in Kansas City, Missouri. We provide customer centric construction management for Federal Clients and electrical engineering services for the electrical utility industry. Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering preferred
- Engineering or Technical background required
- Minimum five years design experience required
- PE license preferred, or EIT certification as secondary preference
- Previous engineering consulting experience required
- Previous engineering project management experience preferred
Essential Job Functions:
- Apply understanding of engineering and technical principles to understand client scope and manage projects to meet scope deliverables
- Provide engineering (design) input on package deliverables to assist in the production and quality review of projects
- Provide key input into the preparation of engineering cost and man-hour estimates/schedules
- Assist in the estimation of estimates and bid packages
- Produce quality and technically sound engineering designs in line with project schedules and budgets
- Work closely with CADD and Physical Design colleagues
- Maintain accurate and organized documentation and document controls
- Interface with clients and internal stakeholders representing company culture and values
- Travel to jobsites, clients, offsite meetings as needed
- Other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Strong oral and written communication skills, including technical writing skills
- Demonstrated project management skills and practice
- Knowledge of common power industry engineering and design practices
- Familiarity of the NESC and IEEE/ANSI Standards
- Technical understanding of electrical engineering, substation protection & controls and electrical transmission.
- Knowledge electrical principles
- Strong computer skills (MS Word, Outlook, Excel, etc.)
- Demonstrated problem solving skills
- Demonstrated analytical and critical thinking skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail and accuracy
- Ability to communicate with technical and non-technical individuals
- Ability to create, manipulate, and read drawings
- Ability to learn through observation and hands on experience
