Objective This position’s primary function is to maintain reliable communication from remote devices to our SCADA and Gas Control System, to configure new installations and set up of measurement and remote terminal devices, and to work on new projects dealing with telecommunications and assist with troubleshooting. Primary Responsibilities - Troubleshoot outages and problems with field communications on SCADA and GAS Control issues.
- Provide Direction to techs on new installations, set up communication devices, RTU equipment and hardware.
- Troubleshoot and maintain telephone systems, satellite systems, cellular communications, master and remote ethernet and serial radios at multiple locations.
- Troubleshoot and maintain low voltage AC/DC systems.
- Aid Project Managers and Engineers on new projects and acquisitions.
- Provide training and assistance to field technicians.
- Works closely with SCADA Manager, Gas Controllers, field, manager, and contract personnel.
- Read and comprehend complex manuals and diagrams.
- Monitor and report on project progress.
- Update reports and maintain inventory.
- Setup electronic systems and devices.
- Participate in company approved and recommended training as required both on and offshore.
- Provide input on new technologies.
- Read, understand, and follow Permit to Work procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions - Primary work location is the central field office with travel to field work facilities such as offices and compressor stations, on and offshore as needed
- Physical activities of this position include standing or sitting for long hours, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, and repetitive motion.
- Worker is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; extensive reading; visual inspection involving small defects, small parts, and operation of machines; using measurement devices
- Worker may be exposed to a variety of conditions including weather extremes, confined spaces, and loud noises.
- Lift up to 25 lbs. occasionally
- Travel requirement is estimated at 30% (mostly related to area assigned) and may include occasional overnight stays; helicopter and boat travel required for offshore work
- 4/10 or other assigned work schedule subject to change by management; overtime and on-call hours as required.
- Perform job duties in required PPE including steel toe boots, respirator, hard hat, and appropriate electrical arc flash gear.
- Position subject to DOT Pipeline drug/alcohol testing requirements.
- Proficient computer skills.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal in English, required.
Education and Qualifications - Minimum High School Diploma or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience with Electronics / Controls / PLC Programming Certification or related experience required with 7 to 10 years’ preferred; Assigned job level (I, II or III) depends on experience.
- Must have experience and ability to troubleshoot various types of RTU’s and PLCs (i.e. Bristol, Allen Bradley, Totalflow, Thermo Scientific, etc.), with SCADA networks and serial IP communications, and Freewave / MDS radios and cellular modems.
- Familiar with UPS and battery backup systems.
- Ability to use diagnostic software.
- Familiarity working with relevant tools and equipment
- Must be very detail oriented and able to meet stringent deadlines.
- Ability to work effectively in a team environment and independently without direct supervision.
- Understanding of the importance of environmental and safe work practices.
- Excellent hand-eye coordination with physical condition to meet job requirements.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- Obtain or possess required certifications for work location, e.g., HUET, TWIC Card, PHMSA Operator Qualification.
- Must be able to travel and work on a call-out basis.
