Third Degree Glass seeks an experienced glass artist to manage and oversee the operations of our three art glass studios: the hotshop, kiln shop, and flameshop. This role is an excellent opportunity for a motivated individual who thrives in a collaborative environment and wants to contribute to a dynamic and evolving glass facility.


Hours: Flexible schedule; expected to manage 20-40 hours per week. Must be available 24/7 for studio emergencies.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee and maintain all aspects of the hotshop, kiln shop, and flameshop.
  • Ensure proper operation and maintenance of gas and electric equipment relevant to glassworking.
  • Respond to studio emergencies and equipment failures at any time, ensuring a safe and functional work environment.
  • Manage studio operations, including scheduling, inventory, and supplies.
  • Support artists, instructors, and visiting artists by maintaining a well-organized and efficient workspace.
  • Develop and implement studio policies and best practices.
  • Train and mentor staff, resident artists, and students as needed.
  • Assist with classes, events, visiting artist programs, and production activities based on interest and expertise.
  • Maintain compliance with safety regulations and best practices for glass studios.
  • Have access to the studios to create personal work, fostering individual artistic growth.
  • Studio production opportunities available based on applicant’s experience and interest.


Qualifications:

  • Strong hot glass experience, including furnace glassblowing.
  • Strong technical knowledge in kiln forming, and flameworking.
  • Experience with gas and electric systems used in glass studios.
  • Ability to troubleshoot and repair studio equipment.
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a diverse team.
  • Experience managing a glass studio or similar facility preferred.


This position is somewhat customizable based on the candidates strengths and interests in areas such as education, production or events programming. However, the individual must have strong technical, equipment and gaffing knowledge, as this component is non-negotiable to the position. 


Compensation: $50-60K annual salary, commensurate with experience. Includes a private 2 bedroom one bath apartment, within walking distance of the studios.
