What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Applications Engineer position at Third Wave Systems?
We are looking for a highly skilled and experienced Senior Applications Engineer to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in CAE software and usage, a deep understanding of machining, a passion for innovation, and a proven ability to solve complex problems. This role combines responsibilities for managing the product development lifecycle and providing expert guidance on various machining applications. The individual in this position will provide machining simulation solutions to customers all over the globe. Machining simulations are a powerful analysis tool that enables machining process optimization as well as part and process quality improvements. The Senior Applications Engineer will deliver software systems support and training, prove the software success out with customers during the proof of concept stage, maintain customer relationships, work cross-functionally with internal product management, development, and product quality teams to translate product needs, requests, and problems to internal requirements, provide technical assistance to the sales team, and provide feedback on product capabilities and new features. In this role, the projects and support provided will directly attribute to the success of the business.
Applications Engineering:
- Provide technical support and modeling guidance to TWS customers.
- Help distributors with international software support.
- Foster relationships with customers to improve customer experience and expand within current customers.
- Conduct and support prove outs and trainings for TWS products.
- Mentor and train junior engineers, fostering a culture of continuous learning and curiosity.
- Manage the customer database and consistently improve and streamline processes.
- Assist with technical demonstrations for both customers and internal teams.
- Apply CAE tools to various metal cutting processes to develop material for training, marketing, and sales.
- Document analysis results and generate succinct reports that summarize the findings and learnings.
- Stay up to date with the latest advancements in machining modeling technology and industry trends.
- Represent TWS at industry trade shows and events.
- Travel required; approximately 25% of the time, including domestic and international.
Software Product Ownership:
- Identify requirements for new technology development and provide feedback on all stages of product creation, including design and development.
- Relay customer feedback to internal stakeholders and software development teams.
- Collaborate with the development and product quality teams to define project requirements and product specifications.
- Guide the implementation of new software technologies and features, ensuring they meet market standards and address customer needs.
- Collect and analyze customer feedback to improve and optimize the software's capabilities, performance, and user experience.
- Participate in scrum meetings and help prioritize tasks and activities.
- Monitor market trends, technology advancements, and competitor products to ensure the product remains competitive.

Core Requirements:
- Demonstrate Third Wave’s core values (driven, takes pride, critical thinker, solution oriented, and collaborative).
- Hold a bachelor's or master's degree in mechanical engineering, manufacturing engineering, or a related field.
- Have a good level of machining knowledge, including a fundamental understanding of milling, turning, forming, assembly, work holding, part distortion and deflection, etc.
- Possess work experience in the manufacturing and/or machining fields.
- Exhibit familiarity with the automotive, aerospace, and/or cutting tool markets.
Additional Skills:
- A history in working with the agile scrum process is a plus.
- Experience with CAD/CAM software (NX, CATIA, Creo, Solidworks, etc.) is a plus.
- Proficiency in using one or more FEA software tools (e.g., AdvantEdge, ANSYS, Abaqus, COMSOL, etc) is a plus.
- $80,000 - $105,000 base salary
