Our partner, The Brook Hill School, serving students in grades PreK-12, is a vibrant, independent Christian Day/Boarding school on a beautiful 250-acre rural campus just south of Tyler, TX and 1½ hours east of Dallas, TX.

Your Impact 

As a Kitchen Utility Worker with Thomas Cuisine, you are the unseen hero ensuring a smooth and sanitary culinary operation. Your dedication to cleanliness and efficiency directly impacts the hygiene and safety of our students. By maintaining a well-organized and sanitized kitchen and dining area, you play a crucial role in upholding our commitment to providing exceptional dining experiences in an independent school setting. The utility worker supports the chefs and other kitchen staff by handling many of the behind-the-scenes tasks, allowing the team to focus on food preparation and service.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to: Executive Chef

Job Specific Duties 

  • Set up and clear the pot washing area using the 3-compartment sink, ensuring compliance with sanitation regulations.
  • Adhere to all safety and sanitation requirements to maintain a clean and hygienic kitchen environment.
  • Regularly check the tray belt and clear it if necessary.
  • Check and fill the dish machine, ensuring it operates efficiently.
  • Record wash/rinse temperatures as per established guidelines.
  • Ensure all washable equipment air dries on racks, free of water.
  • Follow the procedure of not touching dirty equipment before washing your hands when handling clean equipment.
  • Sort and stack clean equipment systematically.
  • Carry/cart clean equipment to designated storage areas.
  • Wash front-of-house garbage can lids through the dish machine.
  • Sanitize stainless steel surfaces, tray line, and tray belt regularly.
  • Place trash and cardboard to the dumpster.
  • Assist kitchen staff as needed in various tasks and functions to ensure smooth kitchen operations.
  • Perform other duties as assigned, demonstrating flexibility in supporting overall kitchen responsibilities.
  • Ensure all food is produced in high quality, timely and consistent manner to meet all menu and customer standard.
  • Ability to develop rapport with the customer, while upholding the values and mission of Thomas Cuisine.
  • Utilize production charts to stock stations with all necessary supplies and food items.
  • Handles, stores, and rotates all products in the station or walk-in cooler properly.
  • Prep menu items in cooperation with the rest of the kitchen staff.
  • Practices correct food handling and food storage procedures according to company and state regulations.
  • Maintains positive, respectful, professional approach, communication, and workplace conduct with customers and team.
  • Reports all unsafe working conditions, operational needs, and equipment or aspects of the kitchen in of repair to management.
  • Pick up trays, wipe tables down in the dining areas. 

What you will need

  • 18 years or older, pending specific state requirements.

  • Ability to provide documents for work authorization. We utilize E-Verify, an online system that allows us to confirm the eligibility of our employees to work in the United States. 
  • Background check that includes SSN Trace, Sex Offender Search, Global Watchlist Search, National Search, and Motor Vehicle Record
  • ServSafe® Certification and State Food Handlers Card, state specific
  • Ability to read, speak, write and comprehend English
  • The ability to work holiday and weekend shift schedules if needed 
  • Sign a pre-employment affidavit 

Physical and Sensory Requirements 

Requires mobility to stand and walk extensively during shift. Lifting, carrying trays and boxes, pans and dishes up to 25lbs. Push/Pull Food Hot Boxes up to 50lbs. Bend, stoop for access to carts, food, trays, and other kitchen equipment. Manual dexterity for kitchen utensils, dish machine and tools.  Visuals for reading menus, labels, and directions. Hearing to respond to verbal communications. Exposure to hot and cold temperatures.
