The Thomas Edison Center at Menlo Park (TECMP) welcomes guests from all over the world and is the original site where incandescent light was perfected! Thomas Edison earns the nickname "Wizard of Menlo Park" for his invention of the Phonograph at this historic site - the first invention to record and playback sound!
This part-time permanent Curator - Educator position requires someone with excellent interpersonal skills and an inviting demeanor to welcome visitors to our museum. You will be supporting the management of the TECMP collections with the PastPerfect database, help with incoming calls, schedule tours, help manage our volunteers, and do administrative tasks. An important part of the responsibilities will be giving tours of our museum, although small, our museum has been praised for the personal tours we give to every visitor.
The position also requires someone who is confident on the computer. This includes assisting with the creation of promotional flyers, support for the newsletter, editing and adding items to the SquareUp register system online as needed, updating the museum website as needed, managing the online gift shop and orders, participating in membership management, and using our current ticketing software, Purple Pass.
You will work alongside the Director and staff to train docents, student volunteers, and facilitate internship projects. You will report to the museum director. Part-time, 15-20 hrs/weekly with potential for more. (Work schedule will vary from Tuesday through Friday, and every Saturday, some evenings required for special programming and public events.)
Qualifications
BA/BS, preferably in museum studies, history and/or equivalent experience; educational experience a plus. Microsoft Suite and Google Suite experience are a plus.
