Position Summary :
Thomas Edison State University seeks a full-time Associate Dean, a member of the leadership team of Heavin School of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Education, which is the second largest TESU School. With a student population of approximately 3000 students, offering more than 60 degree programs (Associate through Master’s, and certificates), the School is also responsible for the majority of the University’s general education curriculum. We anticipate the addition of an EdD in the near future.
The Associate Dean, a senior member of the School’s leadership team, will lead the development and growth of the program with a focused commitment on meeting statewide, national, and global industry and organization needs.
Job Description :
Under the direction of the Dean, the Associate Dean assists in the general administration of all academic aspects in the School. In the absence of the Dean, the Associate Dean assumes the role of chief academic officer of the School.
The Associate Dean is responsible for organizing, planning, and coordinating curriculum development and implementation, recruitment, retention, strategy development and implementation, research and development activities for the Heavin School of Social Sciences, Humanities, and Education. The Associate Dean works as a liaison across the University collaborating with other Schools, programs, coordinators, and administrative offices to facilitate the goals and objectives of the School and University.
Requirements :
Education : Possession of a doctorate degree in an academic discipline in an area of Social Sciences, Humanities, or Education offered by the University. Within Education, knowledge of the New Jersey K-12 landscape is highly desirable.
Experience : A minimum of 6 years’ experience as faculty or / and administrator in a higher education environment and relevant workforce experience. Experience in developing and managing degree and certificates programs, working with students, and managing the instructional staff is essential.
Preferred Knowledge and Skills :
- Knowledge of the (1) current issues, trends and opportunities in Social Sciences, Humanities, and / or Education, (2) philosophy and practices of higher education and familiarity with the standards, curriculum and policies pertaining to adult learning, (3) current issues and trends in adult learning, distance learning and online education.
- Ability to (1) work with professional and support staff, and the community at large (2) work at a distance with students, mentors, and other professionals (3) use technology to communicate, synthesize information, and prepare reports.
- Familiarity and experience with CAEP accreditation.
