GENERAL PURPOSE OF THE ROLE:
Under the direction of the FSQA Manager, the FSQA Supervisor is responsible for ensuring the overall Quality and Food Safety of our beef, lamb, and other protein products at our Swedesboro, NJ facility. He/she will be well-versed in the Quality standards set forth by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and other Regulatory agencies pertaining to processed meat products. This role will assist in overseeing the productivity and time management of the Quality Control Technicians as well as the accuracy of the daily documentation reports, Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) of the plant and company personnel, SQF adherence, HACCP conformance, and Food Defense protocols.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Supervise and coach the TFI USA Food Safety and Quality Team including Team Leaders, Quality Technicians, and other support staff.
- Ensure team members have the training and skills necessary to execute their responsibilities.
- Set performance expectations for each position, evaluate performance against expectations, and provide ongoing feedback and training to each employee.
- Help the technicians to understand the “why” and the importance of all the metrics that they are monitoring on Red Zone and act upon non-conforming parameters.
- Promote and foster the FSQA culture among our team of technicians to observe and detect off-conditions on the processing floor.
- Oversee the effective execution of the HACCP Program, Pre-requisite Programs (such as Environmental Monitoring, Pest Control, Maintenance for Food Safety, Good Manufacturing Practices, Allergen Control, Supplier Management, and Recall and Traceability).
- Responsible for organizing and maintaining all Food Safety and Quality Assurance Programs and documentation in accordance with regulatory, customer and internal TFI requirements.
- Continuously improve the document management program to align with industry best practices.
- Monitor the Pre-Operational and Operational Inspections conducted by the Quality Technicians on a rotational basis with the FSQA Manager.
- Oversee the accuracy of the finished product labels in the Repack Room and assist in preparing processing for the next day.
- Monitor / Audit Warehouse Documentation reviews performed by the Quality Technicians.
- Assist in training new hires to the Quality Department.
- Audit Receiving Inspections performed by the Quality Technicians.
- Monitor the Quality Technician’s procedure of inspecting returned goods, documenting findings, and providing disposition to ensure completion in a timely fashion.
- Accompany FSQA Manager in the quarterly Food Security, Glass & Plastic, and Good Manufacturing Practices Audits.
- Assist in conducting environmental, finished product and shelf-life testing.
- Monitor the Quality Technician’s chemically lean testing and fat testing results.
- Assist in Consumer Complaint and 3PL inspections as needed.
- Communicate with the USDA onsite officials as necessary/required. Report all immediate concerns to the Quality Manager.
- Be a partner and FSQA knowledgeable resource with cross-functional teams: coach, engage, develop and be an agent of change on FSQA culture.
- Additional tasks as assigned by management within scope and ability.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- 2 – 5 years of experience in a fast paced, food manufacturing environment
- Meat exposure / meat experience a plus
- Experience using Excel and ability to complete formulas, graphs, charts, and reporting functions using data
- HACCP Certified
- Knowledge of SQF, NSF, or ISO22000 preferred
- Knowledge of SQF, Halal and Organic certification programs
- Strong oral and written communication skills; able to develop and maintain strong working relationships with production and office staff and external FDA/USDA Inspectors
- Bilingual English/Spanish preferred
- Proficient in computer software, such as inventory / traceability software, manufacturing software and Microsoft Office
- Ability to work with government regulatory bodies
- Strong teaching, coaching, mentoring skills, willingness to train others
- Team player with high integrity, values, and a positive attitude
- Ability to effectively handle the high stress, time and work demands that come with responsibility as QA Supervisor
- Ability to multitask and meet deadlines
- Ability to work a M-F 2pm-12pm
