Job Description:
The Mechanical Fabrication Specialist will possess a strong background in precision fabrication, machining, and welding, supporting our aerospace engineering, assembly, repair, and testing efforts. This role involves fabricating complex tooling, jigs, and test stands, interpreting engineering drawings, and producing precision components using both manual and CNC equipment. The ideal candidate will possess deep expertise in working with a wide range of metals and alloys, have a strong mechanical aptitude, and work effectively with the engineering team in a fast-paced, detail-oriented environment.
Job Requirements and Qualifications
Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated ability to fabricate complex, custom mechanical systems.
Proficiency in various welding techniques, including MIG, TIG, and Arc welding
Uses precision tools, machinery, and equipment such as lathe, vertical milling machine, drill press, hydraulic press, chop saw, band saw, push and pull broaches, and a variety of cutting tools and equipment.
Work with minimal supervision or as part of a team to solve a problem.
Properly and safely selects, aligns, secures, and removes holding fixtures, cutting tools, attachments, accessories, and materials onto machines
Evaluate experimental procedures and recommend change or modifications for efficiency and adaptability to setup and production
Uses gages and measuring instruments to meet tolerance requirements.
Reads and interprets blueprints.
Performs all tasks safely and responsibly.
Ability to move or transfer products with an overhead crane. Ability to lift 75 lbs. when required. While performing the duties of the job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Proven experience operating and holds a valid forklift certification.
Knowledge
High school diploma or GED.
Strong knowledge of welding tools, equipment, and safety procedures
Familiarity with CAD software such as SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or similar.
Working knowledge of and understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing
Working knowledge of and ability to provide technical expertise and feedback to manufacturing engineers.
Experience
5 years of experience in welding, machining, and mechanical fabrication (preferably in aerospace or high-tech industries).
Certification in welding or machining from an accredited institution.
