Job Description
The Diversion Analyst, under the supervision of the Pharmacy Informatics Manager, will be responsible for daily, monthly and ongoing monitoring of all controlled substance (CS) activity including nursing, pharmacy and anesthesia in regards to storage, inventory, preparation and delivery. Essential Functions:
Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Accountable for routine controlled substance audits, inventory control, and review of resolved discrepancies including follow up on outstanding issues and reconciliation. Monitors all activity within the controlled substance medication use process from ordering through administration and waste to maintain a closed system of distribution and strict accounting of all controlled substance transactions. Establishes and maintains a comprehensive surveillance program to detect and respond to potential drug diversion in collaboration with the leadership of the Drug Diversion Prevention Management Committee. Reviews Anesthesia activity and audits cases to ensure appropriate use of controlled substances. Collates monthly data and communicates to Anesthesia Leadership. Trains and educates internal and external customers via email, presentations, huddles, and verbal communications as it relates to controlled substance policies and procedures. Reviews systems, identifies areas for improvement, and assists in upgrades/downtimes related to automated systems to ensure proper handling of controlled medications. Assists in expunging expired controlled medication to the vendor on a monthly basis and the reconciliation of reports to ensure accountability and assists with regular central controlled substance device audit. Uses controlled substance dispensing reports and diversion analysis platform to identify and investigate possible areas of concern. All diversion audit activities performed in conjunction with pharmacy leadership and nursing leadership, where appropriate. Ensures that all recordkeeping is stored, filed, and formatted according to departmental policy and regulatory requirements. Performs other duties as assigned.
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):
Strong quantitative skills. Ability to analyze large sets of data. Strong computer skills in Microsoft Office Suite. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Detail oriented. Working knowledge Joint Commission Medication Management standards and the DEA controlled substance act.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Education: High school graduate or equivalent education. Bachelor's Degree preferred. AND Experience: 2 years of pharmacy technician experience. 1 years of experience with pharmacy automation including automated dispensing cabinets required. Experience handling of controlled substances or inventory/supply chain is preferred.
Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:
Certified Pharmacy Technician Additional Information Proficiency in Microsoft Excel required
