Job Description

Under the direction of a radiologist, the Lead Nuclear Medicine Technologist conducts nuclear medicine procedures using imaging equipment and radioactive materials to assist in the diagnosis of disease and injuries. Responsible for radiation safety and quality control procedures, and delivers patient care and education before, during and after diagnostic imaging procedures. Serves as a technical resource on radiologic procedures, assists in developing and reviewing routine procedures, and participates in the quality assurance and performance improvement process. The Lead also supports department management with administrative and leadership duties as assigned, including scheduling, training and mentoring staff nuclear medicine technologists, and may act in a supervisory capacity in the absence of the regular supervisor. Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson. Performs diagnostic imaging examinations and dynamic tests, such as radionuclide angiocardiography and coronary artery imaging studies. Prepares and administers radioactive agents by adhering to established procedures kit preparation as well as IV injection of agents to ensure accurate diagnostic testing/imaging. Sets up equipment and appropriately positions patient to ensure adherence to protocol, cooperation and optimal results. Maintains daily log of radionuclide doses administered to patients, as well as record of tests performed, diagnosis and any other pertinent information. Maintains all records required by State and Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) regulations. Maintains primary oversight of nuclear medicine equipment testing, repair, and use for the department; liaises with biomedical and radiation safety departments and equipment vendors. Implements radiation safety guidelines and conducts proper radiation protection during the imaging process; serves as a safety champion for the department. Provides technical and general guidance over technical staff, including reinforcement of adherence to department procedure and confidentiality guidelines. Assists Supervisor with the evaluation of workloads and training and development. Performs other related technologist and administrative duties as directed by the supervisor or manager, including those related to quality assurance and/or control, staff schedule/coverage, training and development, etc.] Responsible for maintaining continuing education required for licenses and job position Other duties as assigned. Education: Graduate of approved Nuclear Medicine Program or current validated Registry from ARRT in Radiology Technology (R). ARRT (R), (CT) Preferred.
