GENERAL PURPOSE OF JOB : The Development Director will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director and other staff to maintain and expand existing income sources along with developing new sources of income from individuals, corporations and governmental grants, among others.
RESPONSIBILITIES :
Under the primary supervision of the Executive Director, the Development Director will be responsible for the following tasks :
1. Engaging in research to identify new individual, corporate, foundation and government grant prospects. In consultation with the Executive Director, preparing drafts of grant proposals and reports.
2. S ecuring sponsors, coordinating volunteers and meetings for fundraising events and campaigns.
3. Writing sponsorship and fundraising letters, grant requests and appeals; maintaining regular correspondence with foundation donors.
4. Make presentation in new employee orientation for the Thomas Health System to introduce the Foundation while securing payroll deductions for Employee Clubs.
5. Plan and manage annual Employee Campaign by recruiting champions, provide training and meeting to engage all employees.
6. Contribute of marketing materials, newsletters, proposals and other correspondence.
8. Assist in preparing for and working at all fundraising events.
9. Other assignments to benefit the Thomas Health System as directed by the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS :
Bachelor’s Degree, nonprofit fundraising / development education / experience, preferably with significant foundation / nonprofit and high donor fundraising experience.
Excellent interpersonal and intercultural communication skills; excellent oral communication and ability to participate in public speaking events.
Excellent written communication, research, and organizational skills.
Experienced in using Microsoft Word.
Demonstrated ability to think strategically and thorough understanding of strategic development.
Demonstrated ability to prospect, cultivate, and manage new donor relationships.
Strong partnership-building and event planning skills.
Thorough understanding of all components of a diversified funding base.
Interest, enthusiasm, and affinity for fundraising and working with people.
Position requires discretion and appreciation for the sensitive nature of The Foundation records and excellent organizational and customer service skills.
Communication Skills :
High level of written and verbal communication skills required. Must be able to communicate professionally and effectively with all individuals, including donors, coworkers, volunteers and hospital administration. Must possess strong writing and grammar skills to produce written materials (e.g., donor acknowledgment letters, reports, etc.) with accuracy in spelling and grammar. Must possess pleasant phone manner and display courtesy, helpfulness and maturity. Responsible for screening incoming calls and responding independently. Discretion and appreciation for the sensitive nature of Foundation records is a must.
Reasoning Ability :
Anticipates problems and identifies solutions. Must have the ability to work independently, prioritize projects and manage multiple tasks at any given time. Candidate must demonstrate initiative, common sense and the ability to deal with problems that may arise in a mature and sensible manner. Ability to meet deadlines despite constant interruptions. Ability to adhere to all Foundation policies and procedures.

Knowledge of Raiser’s Edge Database, PowerPoint, Excel and other Office based programs.
Other :
Physical Demands : Ability to bend and lift when necessary using proper body mechanics. Must have the stamina to work 40 hours per week and more if required. Must be able to work flexible hours as needed.
Visual Acuity, Hearing Acuity and Manual Dexterity : Must be able to read computer screens and written information, converse with staff and public directly via telephone; use computer keyboard and write legibly.
WORK ENVIRONMENT : Well-lighted and ventilated work area with low noise level.
AGE APPROPRIATENESS : High level of maturity and discretion essential.
