Thomaston Counseling Center is seeking a dedicated Marriage and Family Therapist(LMFT) to join our team in providing exceptional care to our clients.
Providers must be able to work in outpatient private practice office with out the need of direct supervision. (We are NOT accepting MFTs; You MUST have already passed your MFT exam or licensed)
Main Location: Thomaston Counseling Center is a beautiful Victorian building tucked away up on a hill on South Main Street in Thomaston, CT. We have close HWY access and on a bus route. We are in Litchfield County, near Waterbury, Torrington, Bristol, New Britain, Terryville, Plymouth, Middlebury, & surrounding towns!
Job Summary:
As a Family Therapist at Thomaston Counseling Center, you will work with young adolescents to geriatric, individuals, families, groups, family group system, to address mental health concerns and promote overall well-being. You will be responsible for conducting patient assessments, providing mental health counseling, and collaborating with healthcare teams to ensure comprehensive care. Providers holding recent certifications and consistently engaging in training programs.
This is primarily in the office and home visits position. Home Visits will be in the surrounding area and be discussed with the provider directly.
Telehealth would be supplemental to this position but NOT primary means of appointments!
Responsibilities:
- Conduct patient assessments to identify mental health needs within the family unit.
- Provide individual, family, group family therapy sessions to address emotional and behavioral issues.
- Collaborate with healthcare professionals, including psychiatrists and social workers, to develop holistic treatment plans.
- Utilize motivational interviewing techniques to support clients in making positive changes.
- Maintain accurate medical documentation and ensure compliance with clinical research protocols.
- Collect data on patient progress and outcomes to inform treatment strategies.
- Stay up-to-date on best practices in family therapy and implement evidence-based interventions.
In office/home visits appointments is a must 2 or more days a week. Telehealth is only when needed and only if the patient request Telehealth.
- Must be able to communicate with everyone involved in the patients care and the practice. This includes parents, school, court cases, DCF, PCP, and other care providers.
- Must be able to use the EHR/EMR system and will receive full training with the system and more.
- Must be able to come to the office, provide telehealth services, and in home services in Thomaston and or other surrounding towns after completed intake assessments in the office or telehealth.
- Some admin work.
- Must or be able to Obtain a have a CAQH# upon hire.
- Must or be able to Obtain a have a NPI 1 # upon hire.
- Must be Licensed as a LMFT and do NOT need direct supervision.
- Receive Training
- Peer Reviews with Team
- Must be able to offer Pro Bono service during 1 quarter of the year. Time and Needs would be discussed with director.
- Bonus are offered upon review
Requirements:
- Licensure as a Family Therapist (LMFT)
- Proficiency in special education principles and techniques.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and documentation practices.
- Experience in patient care settings, preferably in mental health counseling.
- Strong skills in patient assessment and data collection.
- Familiarity with ICD-10 coding and clinical research methodologies.
- Ability to work independently in an outpatient private practice setting.
- Excellent communication skills to collaborate with clients, care providers, and families.
Preferred Skills:
While not required, the following skills are considered advantageous:
- Fluency in languages other than English.

-DBT Certified
- Other certifications.
- Yoga certification
